OoT had the incredibly innovative concept of Z-targeting. In one go they came up with a control method that let the game be fun and have strategy but still have full 3D movement. As mentioned, TP is OoT advance.

And as mentioned, LttP is the greatest of the Zeldas.

You make a good point. If your intersted in the evolution of the Zelda series that is the way to go.

On a funny note, since everyone is concurring with me I figure I should say that I know a couple folks who consider the original on the NES the best. I figure we ought to show it some love.

It's definitely the hardest of the lot (in terms of "getting hit and dying", as opposed to "puzzles and time limits" which probably belongs to Majora's Mask). Definitely no kid gloves with that game.

I remember once I was bored at work and looked at the maps for the second quest. I never got past the second dungeon as a kid (ran out of bombs and switched to Mega Man 2), but looking at some of the later dungeons... they are just pure sadism. A lot of one way warps and rooms full of blue darknuts. But one day I shall conquer it.

Pfffft IMO Majora's Mask passes Oot Time by a Longshot defintly play Majoras Mask after Oot not to say that Oot wasnt awsome but MM had a lot more to it =D

As I said before, play them in order. If you want to play the 2-d games, start with the original, and then move on to A Link to the Past (skipping Zelda 2, which is much different and pretty hardcore.) If you are only interested in the 3-D Zeldas, as you probably are, Play Ocarina, then Majora's Mask if you can get a copy... Then Twilight Princess. If you have the need to play Windwaker, go for it, its a cool game, just much different. I feel like you could probably play that one at any time though, if playing the other games starts feeling monotonous.

the first Zelda game I ever beat was the Adventure of Link, followed my the original and the Link's Awakening.
I never finished Link to the Past, I own the player choice one, but don't have a working SNES... so one day Ill finish it.
So no I am not just wanting to play the 3d ones, but I have Ocarina and Twilight Princess to borrow and I decided that I will just play them in chronological order skipping Wind Waker, since I own it and can play it anytime.
