A buddy of mine had one. I was super skeptical going in, being myopic and all. But Sonicretard spoke so highly about it. So I wore my contacts and at first I was underwhelmed. I gave the roller coaster and other demos a go, not impressed. It was neat, but silly. But then I sat in his racing setup, fired up Assetto Corsa, and I was blown away. Playing any simulator with it, that is supported, will be amazing. I was racing around Silverstone (a British track) and could look out over the wheels of my Lotus Type 98T and could see the suspension moving. I could crane my neck around and look behind me. Screw multiple monitors, that is the way to play simulators. I was sold enough on it that I thought about selling my Vectrex 3d Imager that night to pay for two, but before I could I got it tied up in a deal for a pinball machine.

I do not believe it is the future of all gaming, but it is pretty amazing.

But to get back on topic. Regardless of games you like, give Monaco a lookup.

Those graphics do look pretty amazing. I suppose it's good for eye candy if nothing else. :P Reminds me of Project CARS http://www.projectcarsgame.com/

In terms of genres I like; platformers, third person action/adventure, and RPGs (of all types) are probably be the main three.
There's also RTS and other simulation games like SimCity 4 that I really enjoy. I do like FPS, but my experience in that is basically Goldeneye 007 and Wolfenstein 3D (a bit of Metroid Prime too).

I'm surprised with the praise surrounding Oculus Rift. I thought for sure it would be another thing to lump in the "motion-control gimmick" pile.

Man there is so much. I think I'll cast my vote for Team Fortress 2 since it's free and very very fun. It's a bit old so it wont exactly flex the GPU muscles but that's okay. Still quite nice to look at.

XCOM and Planetary Annihilation are both excellent choices for strategy games.
