People can only be so jealous.

I'd be interested in hearing some real-world performance info if you have any from your experiences. Also screens.
He is just as jelly as y'all; he ain't got that thing.

Yet.

Do it dude. They are require less than 200 watts and can tackle pretty much every game out with at least 60 fps in 1080, hell they do 60 fps in 1440 in most games too. The cards are pretty much neck and neck with a titan and under $350. Just do it if you go tmoney burning in your pocket. I plan on waiting to see what AMD pushes before I make up my mind though, I don't want to buy it then find out that AMD releases cards that are faster or just as fast for $100 cheaper.

I'd love to tell you guys about the performance of my GTX 980 and how awesome it is, but I haven't played anything but FFXIV on PC since I got it. And for that the difference is basically zero at 1080p compared to the 770 with all settings maxed and 60 FPS locked.

everything you just said is exactly why I was like "OMG, I think I just found my next GPU."

I read reviews of components - all components - every month whether it's something I "need" or not. I just like feeling like I'm staying in the loop, and might be building up knowledge when it is time to replace/upgrade something. But damn, the reviews on this piece made me really interested. Gotta raise s'more $... and hopefully a cool deal or bundle will pop up in the meantime.

Time to upgrade to 1440?

Perhaps. I do have all my consoles hooked up to the same monitor(s) though. Wonder how well a 1440p or 2160p display scales for those. Plus I only want affordable IPS. Minimal input lag. I hate the 'gaming' displays that use TN panels. They're quick, yes, but the viewing angles are horrible.

I figured people tested them, I just wasn't able to find any when I looked.

Most people form some kind of technique and barely moving the mouse plays into that. Personally, I don't care that much about tournament FPS level of control, it would be wasted on me anyway.
Fair enough. I honestly don't play FPS much and certainly not at tournament level. But at the same time I want the best product I can get. All preference though. I would like to try a few ambidextrous gaming mice sometime. I have only tried ergonomic ones.

720 stuff should scale beautifully. At least it looked pretty good when I had the chance to test it a Microcenter. 1440 is exactly four times the number of pixels. I'm getting my 1440 monitor in a month or so, and that's how I'll be playing games on it. The 6770m isn't really built to handle those kinds of resolutions.

noiseredux you still have time. All configurations of the GTX 970 are sold out at most places.
And, obviously yes do it.

Considering the Nvidia v. AMD trend. What usually happens is AMD's cards have way more everything on paper, but in real world performance it barely matters.

Unless their next mid-range cards are 4K beasts, which I have doubts about, I don't think it'll matter that much.

Nvidia also has the PhysX advantage. Not huge, but it's something. And I do feel like more games are optimized for Nvidia cards. Along with Nvidia cards tending to run cooler, more power efficient, and being more powerful (at least at the top end). I know I am somewhat biased, but at current I don't even really consider AMD an option. This could change, of course.

yeah it def seems that the 970's are actually blowing away more expensive AMD chips. Pretty crazy. It's also kind of nuts that the 970's are flying off shelves. I didn't even realize but you really can't find them anyway.

AMD was smart to lower prices on the R9 290 and 290X, but I feel like it wasn't enough. The 290X's are still hovering in the $400 zone, where GTX 970's are $320-$350. The 290's are down to the $300, but for another $20 you can just go w/ the 970 (if you can find one). I feel like AMD should have gone for a deeper discount.

So depending when 970's are stocked again, and depending on my spending $ situation at that time, and depending on sales/bundles/etc... I still think I'll prob keep my eye on a 970 unless there's some insane drop or bundle on a 290X.

Although now that I'm reading a bit more about the 290 vs. 290X, it sort of sounds like the 290 is damn close. So I suppose that's an option too... (?)

http://www.pcgamer.com/amd-radeon-r9-290-review/

I mean this review, from 11 months ago basically says that the R9 290 is an improvement over the 290X. And while the GTX 970 has been raved about as 'the best' GPU for your money right now, performance-wise the 290 is damn close isn't it? (Though I suppose the 290 does consume more power).

If the 970 is the clear winner, then that's one thing. But if I'm going to end up spending more on the 970 (vs. 290) just to say I've bought the card that the reviews are raving about... then I'm not sure I should make the switch to Nvidea or not. Though I'm still leaning towards the 970. I really don't like the idea of how power-hungry the AMD chip is. And I feel like the price is so close that I should stick to my gut.
