One of the most notable cinematic games of the 80s with a noble and honorable hero was reduced over time to stupidity, sexism, and dick jokes.
Wow, that was fucking awful.

Have to agree with Halo. I've said it before, I've beaten every FPS Halo game and still don't know what the fuck the overall story is supposed to be.

And I'll nominate Castlevania, cos why not?

Who is that even supposed to appeal to?

I'll mention Soul Calibur. That series got weird.

Metal Gear

Love the gameplay of most of the entries... but the overall plot is damned near indecipherable at this point.

Early stuff is good. But as it progressed it got stupid.

I have yet to mess with this latest gen's content.
Do you mean you don't like your main villain with super human abilities taken out from the Matrix and become a giant tentacle rape monster at the end of the game?

Can i mention dead or alive? It started at some sort of revenge tail and ended up with... i don't even know how to call it... evil organization that tries to clone a specific individual with the end to create a interdimensional being that can kill anything... THAT.

BoneSnapDeez wrote:Hate to say it, but as much as I love the overarching mythology of the Ys games the individual stories are pretty dumb. How many times can the same guy roll into a random town on a boat and then end up saving the world?
I know! And, how does he keep losing all of his awesome equipment and fighting abilities? Its like he throws all of his stuff overboard as soon as he leaves town and embarks on a strict diet of Krispy Kreme donuts and hard liquor. I swear, Adol is almost as bad as Samus Aran...

Also, I am going to second Ninja Gaiden. The "story" in the 8-bit games was great (by NES standards), and the Xbox game was a fun prequel. I have not read good things about the others, however.

Some executive at Konami thought it would be a grand 'ol idea to bring in the development studio responsible for the Metal Gear Solid games (has it been nominated for this thread yet....yep) for Lords of Shadow, and then the development team they were partnered with (MercurySteam) went at it alone for the sequel. Given that the people who play these games can't make head nor tails of the plot, imagine trying to pick up and continue the work left behind by Kojima's studio. It must have been a nightmare.

No, that's not actually what happened...but it still makes more sense than the plot of either series.

A Japanese franchise handed over to Western developers.

It never ends well.

Look at the PS1 Contra games...

Half Life: for leaving as hanging :P
Have a cookie...as you have hit the nail on the head. Assassin's Creed has gone off the deep end and took a awesome and unique idea and flushed it down the toilet with the desperate need to elongate the series.
