I'd like to get some brackets together for a contest to see which game series plot the Racketboy community most feels got absolutely lost or stupid as time went by.
Guidelines:
- Any genre is fine, as long as there is a plot/narrative central to the game.
- The plot and narrative have to be native to the game. Lots of Gundam games have stupid stories but that's usually a source material issue.
- The stupid plot nominated has to span at least three titles.
- Series with multiple games with multiple stupid plots need not apply, i.e. Final Fantasy series as a whole. Plots within a franchise that made it across multiple direct sequels are okay.
- Say something about the dumbness you are nominating
To get things started, I'd like to nominate the Megaman X storyline that stretched out across seventeen games (Megaman X all the way through ZX Advent)
It started out as a darker version of the original Megaman storyline with a few post apocalyptic overtones and then developed into the most contrived and absolutely random bit of nonsense it could, mashing whatever Japanese tropes the developers could reach for in desperation of ever producing a decent game again. Sentient robot elf fairies that access machine DNA to create human paradise for great justice? Sure, why not?
Games you guys would like to nominate? Nominations end next Sunday

Would Sonic count?

Good call. There was a definite continuous storyline that at least lasted 8 games.Sload Soap wrote:Would Sonic count?

Assassin's Creed: What was obviously planned a trilogy was extended to 5 games and even after that just kept going without the main cast.

Resident Evil.
Early stuff is good. But as it progressed it got stupid.
I have yet to mess with this latest gen's content.

Shocked that Metal Gear Solid hasn't made an appearance yet. Spans multiple games, and it just gets exponentially worse each time. Not sure if really average game, or really terrible movie.
Do Halo and Halo 2 count? I've never played anything beyond that because of how ridiculous the contrived fleshing out of the story was. Didn't bode well for anything coming after.
...and maybe we can't use the Final Fantasy series, but 7 deserves a special mention as quite possibly having the worst and most incomprehensible plot in the history of video games.
