Ninja Gaiden.

One of the most notable cinematic games of the 80s with a noble and honorable hero was reduced over time to stupidity, sexism, and dick jokes.

The storyline of 7 was okayish when it was a solo game but the prequels, sequels, and movies turned it into a joke. FYI gets a spot on the bracket.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

I like the way you think. The dialogue in that game is absolutely nauseating.

Hate to say it, but as much as I love the overarching mythology of the Ys games the individual stories are pretty dumb. How many times can the same guy roll into a random town on a boat and then end up saving the world?
