I think he is a little off with the titanium, but used PS3 games seem to be returned less for failure that Xbox 360. Maybe my used 360 games are just previously owned by idiots.

There is definitely a protective layer on BDs.

In terms of durability and average condition of second-hand games I'd rank them...

1. Cartridges
2. Blu ray
3. DVD
4. CD
5. Cassette
6. Floppy disk
7. any used game from GameStop

They are. lisalover is right in that the higher density would make scratches more problematic, but that's why the format requires scratch protection. Not titanium, but, something (apparently, each manufacturer has their own process). The Wii U's "not Blu-ray" format also has scratch protection.

While I have been told by a Gamestop manager I know from way back that they do get scratched Blu-rays on occasion - and, obviously, they can still crack - I'm a lot more confident buying used PS3 games. I've yet to run across a disc in less than like-new shape, as opposed to say, Wii games, which seem to scratch if you look at them wrong.

Not sure how much to trust blurays i already got a god of war 3 disc to fail for being scrached... though it seems to be real deep.

I read up, they do have a protective layer, like isiola stated, but the quality varies by the company pressing the disks. Apparently, before the protective layers, blurays were intended to be in protective cases like UMDs are, but the idea was scrapped due to cost.

I believe it is like the scratch resistant coating on glasses. One thing I always preach but people fail to follow is to wipe the disc with a micro fiber cloth or at least a high quality lotion free tissue. I do not care if it is new or I just took it out and put it back in, always clean them.

No, your soft cotton shirt is not good enough to use  I see store employees do this and want to tear there shirt off and use it on the inside of there colon!

Any thoughts on which next gen console I should invest in? I'm torn.

My pops and a few of my close friends have an Xbox One; It's not selling so well but it has a lot that I'm looking forward to. Halo is coming too.
A lot of my friends from Up North have a PS4; most of you are playing on PS4; lots of great exclusives.
Wii-U is gaining momentum and some stuff that is interesting me is finally coming out.

I am really thinking about getting at most two out of the three.

I have no idea how to prioritize this.

Wii U already has an amazing game library with some great titles on the horizon.

Nothing on the Xbox One and PS4 interest me.

That's just my personal taste though.

For now if you can get two I'd go with Wii U + either PS4 or Bone. Like the PS3/Xbox 360 I think the Bone and 4 will have a very large overlapping library so you'd have to decide which exclusives look best.
