They are. lisalover is right in that the higher density would make scratches more problematic, but that's why the format requires scratch protection. Not
titanium, but, something (apparently, each manufacturer has their own process). The Wii U's "not Blu-ray" format also has scratch protection.
While I have been told by a Gamestop manager I know from way back that they do get scratched Blu-rays on occasion - and, obviously, they can still crack - I'm a lot more confident buying used PS3 games. I've yet to run across a disc in less than like-new shape, as opposed to say, Wii games, which seem to scratch if you look at them wrong.
