It really is oddly compelling. To be fair, it has more game to it than most simulators too. It's not simply driving a truck. You get to pick up various jobs that pay various sums of money. You can expand into different countries. Build up cash to buy faster, more comfortable trucks. You have to consider weight, whether the cargo is fragile, etc. Balance between speed and fuel economy.
And if that doesn't appeal to you, you can also tailgate people while holding down the horn to see if they'll brake check you (I swear they will).
Euro Truck Simulator 2 is far more expansive than the original but no Mac OS compatibility (edit: yet, it's coming apparently). Once my larger SSD gets here I look forward to trying it out, since the original alone is still a lot of fun.
