mod-chip.com is under new ownership now. No idea if they can be trusted, but they suddenly have a lot of chips in stock the the old owner did not, including all the main Gamecube ones. So I ordered a XenoGC. Supposed to be a pretty easy install, no wires. We'll see how this goes. All I want to do is burn a few hard to find games onto mini-DVD-Rs and have them work.
I have the Viper Extreme in my Black GC.. the only thing I had to do was a Laser Pot adjustment with a multimeter to read burns better. I use Sony HandyCam DVD-R and I have burned about 30 games with no issues. Just wanted to share my experience in case anyone cares.

I bought a Viper GC chip from them (mod-chip.com) about 2 months ago. No issues. It seems that the company is registered in the US. Virgin Islands and shipped from Bulgaria or some similar eastern bloc country.
I found the Cobra bios (I used 2.1) to be terrible for trying to read my backup discs. I put GCOS on the flash memory and used that to boot my discs. The cobra Bios does have some nice features such as being able to read/rip discs via USB and to read/write your GC memory card.

I know several folks who have the Xeno GC chip. It's cheap and it works great for using your backup discs. I plan to order a few of them myself to mod the 5 cubes that I have and resell them.
To do the no-wire install is tricky. If you're not good at soldering, you're better off using wires to connect the chip.
Boot the limited amount of homebrew available for the system. Um... Depending on the chip you can transfer retail games over USB or ethernet if you have the ethernet adaptor.
