My personal goals for 2014 is doing great. Use to go to thrift stores and flea markets and yard sales everyday, and now I only have gone once a month or every other month.
Passed up on a game boy color, GBA bundle, SNES lots, and a Dreamcast lot this year.
Only down to owning 3 systems. A Wii in which I only buy DC, a 360 just for streaming and DC, and my Genesis in which I only buy Gamez I know I'll play.
Doing great. Down to just owning 4 Wii titles, 5 360 games and everything is downloaded by vc and gold members which games are free.

Just curious - are you including the AtariAge games and the stupidly rare Diagnostic Cartridge?

I have toyed with the idea of going after an Atari 5200 set as well. I love the carts themselves. So sturdy and durable.

No. I am only trying to collect retail releases. (I also love Atari 5200 games for the same reason you do. I found a lot locally after watching Cloak & Dagger, and I just could not resist those big sturdy carts. )

That's awesome! Cutting back on games like that is one of the hardest things I've had to do. You seem to be doing a better job of it than I have, as well. I had an easier time when I decided to quit smoking - honestly! Keep at it, and I'm sure you'll be far more satisfied with your decisions in the long run.

Eventually, I'm going to purge a fair amount of my collection. That's going to be painful. Hopefully, the money earned will counterbalance that.

Three quarters of the year done. Updates?:
alienjesus wrote:1. Build up my collection for the following systems: Gamecube, N64, Saturn, DS, PSP.
Picked up -
Gamecube: Starfox Assault & Ikaruga
Saturn: Dragon Force
DS: 999, Solatorobo, Pokémon Ranger 2, Pokémon Typing Adventure, Maestro: Jump in Music, Inazuma Eleven, Pokémon Black, Dragon Quest VI, Dragon Quest IX, Age of Empires: Mythologies, Age of Empires: Age of Kings, Final Fantasy IV, Phantasy Star 0, Pokémon Pearl
PSP: Yggdra Union, Project DIVA 2nd, Project DIVA Extend
N64: None. I really need to get on this next year, as there are a ton of (fairly pricy) games I want for the system and they're not getting cheaper

Pretty much a success!

2. Beat 2 numbered Final Fantasy games this year.
Finished FFVII, will have finished FFX by the end of the week. Success!

3. Beat at least 5 of the 8 games on last years games unbeaten list.
Beaten: Kirby's Epic Yarn, FFVII, Shantae. Not beaten: Nintendo Land, Blaster Master, Aeroporter, Animal Crossing, Mario & Luigi Dream Team Bros.

Still need to beat 2 more, might be tricky.

4. Get all consoles on my backloggery down to 3 or less unbeaten games.
This is never going to happen. Currently over 3: Wii (9), SNES (5), 3DS (5), DS (14), Dreamcast (4), Saturn (4), Game Gear (4), PS2 (11), Vita (7), PSP (4), NGPC (4)

5. Participate in more than half of this years Together Retro games, and beat at least 50% of those I play.
I'm doing terrible at this - I've played a tiny bit on most months, but not really gotten stuck in. I have very little interest in the remaining games for the year. Next year I'll have to join in more.

6. Limit buying to roughly 3 games per month - not including cheap digital deals or together retro games. Preferably 1 modern game, 1 more pricy retro game and 1 other game of my choice. The goal here being to try and pick up some of the slightly pricier games I've been wanting whilst also cutting down my backlog a little.
This has sort of happened some months, but those cheap digital deals have been abundant and I've got way too much to play again. Must be stricter.

1. Play through the rest of the Wario Land series (I only need to beat Wario Land (VB) and Wario Land: Shake It! (Wii).)

2. Start a series, and play though all of the games in it (There are some recent series - such as Devil May Cry, Ratchet & Clank, Sly Cooper, Uncharted, etc. - that I have never touched. I would like to pick one and play through all of the games in one of those series in chronological order.)

3. Finally push through both Nectaris: Military Madness (PS1) and Return Fire (PS1) (I respect both game immensely - and I have sunk hours into each one - I just do not have the will power to finish them, however.)

4. Finish collecting at least one sub-set of 2600 games (I suspect I will acquire the rest of the Activision "standard label" games at some point this year.)

5. Acquire a PSP and mod it

6. Acquire an Atari 7800

7. Finish off one of my collections (I only need to 21 10 15 11 games to complete my N64 collection and 41 43 38 36 33 games to finish off my Xbox collection. None of the games I require are particularly expensive; so, I suspect that - with a few internet purchaes - I can finish off one or the other before the end of the year.)

8. Continue to amass PS3 and Wii games (It is currently a great time to be buying used games for those systems.)

9. "Complete" all of the games in my collection that missing their manuals (15 13 11 games in my collection are missing their manuals, and it is driving me CRAZY!)

10. Photograph my collection and post the pictures to the forums (For most of my collection, this will not be that hard. I just need to do it.)

11. Grab all of the game I want from PSN and WiiWare store while they are still available

12. Play through all of the non-RPG games in one or more of my collections (This is a long-shot, but I do not think it would be that difficult for me to play through all of the non-RPG games in my 3DS, Gameboy, or Wii collections.)
With six goals down, I am doing pretty well. I will also probably knock out goals 2, 7, and 10 before the end of the year. I very much doubt, however, that I will knock out 12.

As an aside, I picked up a copy of Crackpots (2600) last week; so, I did finally complete my Activision "standard label" collection. (That said, I am still hoping to complete a few more 2600 sub-sets before I photograph that portion of my collection.)

I received a copy of Bomberman 64: The Second Attack today. It is the last game I wanted for my Nintendo 64 collection, and since I now have the 197 best games fot that system, I am done collecting for it.

I don't think I will accomplish any of my other goals this year. Seven out of twelve is not too bad, IMO, and I look forward to working toward at least a few of these again in 2015! :)

No one wanted to do a final update for the year? Here's how I did!

Gamecube: Starfox Assault & Ikaruga
Saturn: Dragon Force, Shinobi X
DS: 999, Solatorobo, Pokémon Ranger 2, Pokémon Typing Adventure, Maestro: Jump in Music, Inazuma Eleven, Pokémon Black, Dragon Quest VI, Dragon Quest IX, Age of Empires: Mythologies, Age of Empires: Age of Kings, Final Fantasy IV, Phantasy Star 0, Pokémon Pearl, Chibi-Robo: Park Patrol
PSP: Yggdra Union, Project DIVA 2nd, Project DIVA Extend, Final Fantasy
N64: Jet Force Gemini, Banjo Tooie

Success!

3. Beat at least 5 of the 8 games on last years games unbeaten list.
Beaten: Kirby's Epic Yarn, FFVII, Shantae, Nintendo Land. Not beaten: Blaster Master, Aeroporter, Animal Crossing, Mario & Luigi Dream Team Bros. Only managed 4 out of 8 in the end. Could have been worse though

Still need to beat 2 more, might be tricky.

4. Get all consoles on my backloggery down to 3 or less unbeaten games.
Nope... Currently over 3: Wii (9), SNES (5), 3DS (7), DS (13), Dreamcast (4), Saturn (5), Game Gear (4), PS2 (10), Vita (6), PSP (3), NGPC (4), PC (4)

5. Participate in more than half of this years Together Retro games, and beat at least 50% of those I play.
This didn't happen. I started off well, but quickly fell off the Together Retro wagon.

6. Limit buying to roughly 3 games per month - not including cheap digital deals or together retro games. Preferably 1 modern game, 1 more pricy retro game and 1 other game of my choice. ...we'll see how well I manage to do.

THERE ARE SO MANY GAMES I WANT TO PLAY. AND SO MANY OF THEM I ALREADY OWN WHAT AM I EVEN DOING WASTING TIME POSTING ON A FORUM WAAAH!
I posted this with pretty much no forethought, just a desire for a smaller backlog. If you ignore games I got from things like the previous charity auction and Kickstarter (both were basically me buying games before the resolution) I TOTALLY ACHIEVED THIS GOAL.

I didn't play too many games last year but I managed to buy VERY FEW and that's progress! Maybe in 2015 I'll be able to beat three for every one I buy? L-let's not get ahead of ourselves.
