For brand new games/books/movies, always Amazon. Always.
For used games I always check Amazon first, because even used games are usually trustworthy if they come with Prime shipping. I've only ever had one time where I bought a used game off Amazon that came with Prime which didn't turn out to match the seller's description, and I got it quickly and painlessly replaced.
However, in the case where no Prime option on used games is available, or in the rare instance of the only Prime options being way too expensive, then I'll go to Ebay and try to find a good deal. Typically I'll only buy a game if the seller has good feedback, and pictures which accurately show off the item.
Then there's the situation of Playstation 1 games, which I'm currently trying to collect. Unfortunately for those I must always go to Ebay first. You see, even if a PS1 game is being sold with Amazon Prime, there's never any way to find out if the game is going to be Black Label or not. There are usually no pictures, and usually very vague descriptions. So for those, in order to ensure all my PS1 games are BL only, I always have to go to Ebay where pictures are aplenty.
Also, I'm sure I'm not the only one here, but it's a huge pet peeve of mine when people inaccurately describe the condition of their used item on Amazon. I am so sick and tired of seeing "Used - Like New - Cartridge/disc only!" in the description. The condition of the item means the item AS A WHOLE, DAMMIT. If the box/manual is in bad condition or completely missing then you have no right to say it's "Very Good" let alone "Like New!" *flips table*
Amazon or Ebay?

That's not ebay's fault though. The last USPS rate hikes for international were bonkers. I sent a big FF Bahamut figure to a moosey Racketeer and shipping was about 2/3 of what I was asking for the figure as I recall. That was actual postage, I wasn't adding anything for packaging, gas, or my time. Somehow they didn't run away screaming.Retrogamer0001 wrote: Sorry, Ebay.ca, me being a Northlander and all. It's gotten to the point where it no longer makes sense to buy things from Ebay anymore.

I never said it was Ebay's fault, just that it no longer makes sense for me to buy anything there because it's nearly impossible to get a good deal with the crazy shipping. I'm extremely thankful that my retro collection more or less complete because if shipping prices (and retro prices in general) were this bad 3-4 years ago, I wouldn't have even a quarter of my current collection. SNES prices have gotten so bad that I don't even bother looking anymore - even "uncommon" titles are into the 100$ range in many cases.Hobie-wan wrote:That's not ebay's fault though. I have a terrible time finding stuff that will ship to Canada on Amazon. I live with the shipping cost. It usually works out cheaper that using a service to get stuff from Amazon.com. Amazon.ca has almost nothing good gaming-wise.

I disagree completely. For current-gen titles, nothing beats it.Anapan wrote: Amazon.ca has almost nothing good gaming-wise.

^ Oh, ya I agree. I buy current gen from pawn shops. Better deals and great selection from both.

Re: Amazon or Ebay?
If looking for a game new, it's amazon.co.uk for me, since ebay seems to be filled with chancers trying to sell for the same as in a brick and mortar store, AND add on shipping.
I sell various stuff from my collection via ebay.co.uk (over 150 feedback, 100% positive), and i've now taken to just listing all my items with free, insured shipping, and absorb the cost by being able to sell at a slightly higher price. I still make a small profit, though, so it's OK.

Re: Amazon or Ebay?
Don't buy used games on Amazon. Unless you WANT your games to be scratched and you hate free shipping.
At least on Ebay you can get pictures and lots of Ebay sellers offer free shipping.
Let's use an example for Amazon. Say I want Resident Evil 2 on PSX, the non greatest hits Dual Shock version in a double case, black label. Amazon doesn't have that listed, at all. Now some seller MAY have it, but the descriptions are so poor, you will never know.
Let's not get started on "Light Scratching." That term sickens me. Some people call layers of circular scratches light.
