Amazon or Ebay?
After being a long-time Ebay user (almost 400 feedback) I have to admit that I'm fed up with the insane cost of shipping. I haven't bought anything on that site in almost four months, which would have been unthinkable for me a year ago. Amazon is my new go-to site for online purchases, with deals on new items that can't really be matched anywhere else. They have the best sales on current-gen video games, consoles, books, movies, tv shows, and pretty much everything else with free shipping on orders over $25. I am having a field day with a lot of the 7th-gen games I still want to pick up (mostly PS3 RPGS) and classic sci-fi/fantasy books. Which site do you guys use regularly to fulfill that online shopping itch?

Are you talking about high shipping prices on US ebay or Canadian ebay? On the US side of things, that is likely due to our recent hike on int'l shipping rates...which is unfortunate.Retrogamer0001 wrote:After being a long-time Ebay user (almost 400 feedback) I have to admit that I'm fed up with the insane cost of shipping. But yeah, I buy more stuff on Amazon than anywhere else.

Sorry, Ebay.ca, me being a Northlander and all. Items to Canada from the US suffer from insane shipping costs - the minimum seeming to be $14 and the maximum being, well, anything you can imagine. It's gotten to the point where it no longer makes sense to buy things from Ebay anymore.dsheinem wrote:Are you talking about high shipping prices on US ebay or Canadian ebay? If I'm buying brand new sealed games, Amazon. (Prime is great.)Retrogamer0001 wrote:Which site do you guys use regularly to fulfill that online shopping itch?
If I'm buying used games, eBay. And I'm very careful about it.

US here so I don't suffer buying up north.
I use both, only sell on ebay because amazons policies, cut, and feedback handling is noticeably worse, a punishment for using it basically.
I got a PS4 new off ebay about a month ago for $300 shipped - $50 gift card I had, doubt you'll find that on amazon. It's about smart shopping. Amazon I find is more of a benefit with some things and not others so to quit one for the other isn't smart, at least in the states.

I have been burned a few times buying used stuff from Amazon, which is my own fault. Ebay usually has more pictures of said item (and if there aren't pictures, me no buy).
Re: Amazon or Ebay?
Amazon marketplace is a strange one.
The negatives are obvious. Poorly described items often thrown together under one generic heading so it's hard to know exactly what you are getting. The sellers communication is also often poor. I recent enquired about a NGPC game to see if it was boxed and complete. After five days the seller replied "yes, it has the instructions"...not answering my question at all.
On the positive side, amazon sellers often seem oblivious to the silly prices that ebay wannabe millionaires are charging for (often very common) retro stuff. I've taken a gamble with a few Amazon listings, again for NGPC, games and been able to secure uncommon games at low prices. Often these seem to be just warehouses who have had this stock for years and are just wanting to get rid of it as opposed to ebay clowns selling easy to find retro games for outrageous prices.

Re: Amazon or Ebay?
If you have a Prime membership and filter the used items to Amazon Prime only you actually will end up getting items that are reasonably good from third party sellers. You can't send an item that's falling apart to the Amazon warehouses (which is how the Fulfilled by Amazon system works), so it sets a minimum bar.

Ebay for games made before 2000 and imports, Amazon for newer stuff. Play Asia very occasionally for things like Sturmwind.
Japanese sellers on ebay tend to really understate how good the condition of their items are. I bought a few Saturn games listed as "Good" that were all but new barring the shrink wrap. However local sellers will put up a cart only N64 game as "Very Good".
Ebay is also an easier way to flog stuff you don't want anymore, like the copies of Golvellius and Viewtiful Joe that caused so much pain. Amazon is a bit more...let's say unrefined in that department.

Re: Amazon or Ebay?
The reason I buy used stuff off eBay is because you can see pictures of what you're actually buying. I need to see a few pictures of the actual product, and the seller needs to have stellar feedback, then it's a sale.
