I meant Thursday morning! I have to go back to work Thursday night, so I can't go on a week long bender or anything
... until September. I'm off for 27 days starting Labor Day weekend (for Dragoncon), so I can totally go on a bender in September.

Angry- my father has been holding and using money of mine and refusing to give it to me because he's a petty little shitbaby. I'm at this point dead broke and the shenanigans are not appreciated.
Happy- my mom is spotting me some money to tide over, and a family friend who's not a big fan of my dad to begin with is offering pro bono legal help to deal with him.

Protip for everyone; keep your money away from people you care about. Inevitably some situation will come up where either they refuse to pay you back or you suddenly need it back and they don't have it immediately available and bad times occur.AmishSamurai wrote:Angry- my father has been holding and using money of mine and refusing to give it to me because he's a petty little shitbaby. Re: What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?
Basically when I was little my granddad gave me a shitload of stocks, my dad had a hold on the account because I was a minor. He has refused to remove the hold since I turned 18, and hoarded every dividend check for himself. I actually didn't know dividend checks were a thing til I was 21. And last time I brought it up he basically bullied me into never bringing it up again.MrPopo wrote:Protip for everyone; keep your money away from people you care about. Wow, that's a really shitty situation. I suppose it could be worse in that the stocks are still there, rather than sold off years ago to buy meth. Definitely take your friend up on the offer to go after him hard legally.AmishSamurai wrote:Basically when I was little my granddad gave me a shitload of stocks, my dad had a hold on the account because I was a minor. He's sold about half of it off without my consent, right when the economy tanked in 2008. I kinda-sorta got that, but he lied about it being from my stocks saying it was "his money to help me through college"MrPopo wrote:AmishSamurai wrote:Wow, that's a really shitty situation. Was the money used to take care of your expenses when you were younger than 18? Did he have the legal right to the stocks/dividends and to use that money in that way (including selling them)? If you had a legal right to them when you turned 18, why didn't you go claim them then? Why would you need him to "release a hold" if they became yours at that age? I get that it is a shitty situation, but I think you'd have to show he was deliberately keeping you in the dark or something to have legal grounds...

Its private stock, the account has him as a custodian, I tried to get him removed on my own but was basically told "you need his okay to remove his name" and he won't give that, or give me the time of day.dsheinem wrote:AmishSamurai wrote:He's sold about half of it off without my consent, right when the economy tanked in 2008. I don't understand this. If it was legally yours at 18, why wouldn't they have to do this?AmishSamurai wrote: Its private stock, the account has him as a custodian, I tried to get him removed on my own but was basically told "you need his okay to remove his name" and he won't give that, or give me the time of day.
