Even with a little electric grease the nes and genesis slots are real tight scary so. Everytime I try and pull it out it feels like I'm going to rip the socket off the board. I don't see this thing standing up well to heavy usage. Thankfully I got my replacement snes and with adapters I will likely use this primarily and keep the retron on standby.
Cant remember where I read this, but it's done wonders for me getting NES carts out easiily without messing up pins/connector.

TO REMOVE NES GAME FROM RETRON PRIOR TO CONNECTORS BEING LOOSENED:

1. Firmly place hand horizontally over system to secure it in place

2. Use other hand and wrap it around the side of the cartridge closest to you.

3. Firmly pull cartridge both up and toward you simultaneously.

Might take a few tries to understand the best technique, but I no longer have any issues getting NES games out. Hope that helps!

Laugh it up, fuzzball!

The NES connector IS too tight right out of the box, but it does loosen up over time.

But seriously, laugh at it all you want, I love this thing. I've bought a Wii U, PS4, and Xbone over the last two years, and my Retron is now my favorite console. Deal with it

I'm sorry. The detailed, written directions for removing a cart from a top-loading system were just too funny!

(Also, I plan on buying a Retron 5 at some point. They appear to be awesome.)

So no word on my Amazon unit yet... I wonder what I'll receive first - the Retron 5 or my first Indie Box game.

Not really, it was a little firm to start but that's it. The only really oddly tighter one was the Genesis but as I think I said before here (have elsewhere) Sega used thicker boards than Nintendo by a hair and they didn't account for that clearly. I don't have any Sega games other than one I tested on it where I picked it up but the others having a dozen games or so pulled in and out of it they're just comfy as it should be. I can get the games out of there just fine one handed bracing it or not. The only real fragile thing I think it has is the non-reinforced plastic strips between the cart slots as they have a little give, but the rest is pretty firm all around.

I am happy to report after the first time I took a Genesis cartridge out with its infamous death grip, subsequent cartridge removals from that slot have been much smoother. This is a grand total of less than 5 times I removed it so far, but it's probably the easiest slot to take a cartridge out of outside of the GB/GBA slot of course.

This will come in handy for Phelios next month (SOTM for August).

Yeah, I've actually played some Genesis stuff here lately after neglecting it for so long.

I forgot how good Gunstar Heroes was, and I plan to participate in the SotM thread more often. I'm starting to feel the need to shmup it up again.

So would using a crappy game to loosen it up a dozen or so times first be a good idea?

Mine death grips genesis games. I really feel like I am going to break something pulling them out.
