Megaman, Super Mario Bros 3, Zelda II, Castlevania, Ghouls n' Ghosts... and the list goes on.

This game was absolutely awesome and should set the bar for indie games. Indie done right, here. It takes all those influences, brilliantly meshes them together, and still has its own identity. It's downright gorgeous and the music was incredible. I hope this is not only the beginning for Shovel Knight, but more NES styled throwbacks of this caliber to come.

Got close to 5 hours out of my first run, so it's a nice length for something like this too.

Anybody, most of us here I would presume, who grew up on the NES definitely must play this.

Beat Double Dragon Neon tonight co-op for PC. Took 3 hours 41 minutes. I rate it 8/10.
Going beyond a mere remake, Neon marks its own glowing identity by invoking nostalgia of not just its progenitor, but the decade from whence it came (80's like to the max). As a beat 'em up, the combat system is robust with multiple level up systems and weapon use. The graphics are truly excellent, the OST is bodacious, there's a few totally rad boss battles, and a great sense of humor permeates the entire affair. However, the "Double" aspect of the dragons is not used to full effect, it seems there's no way to have the brothers perform cooperative attack moves... bummer dude! Ultimately Double Dragon Neon is a brilliant homage to the original Double Dragon, landing far more punches than it misses.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

Dawngaurd
This expansion was, like the majority of Elder Scrolls expansions, a huge let down. It was simply a quest line not any longer than one of the guild quest lines. I finished it in about an hour and a half as my character had already reached max level. Seemed dull.
Dragonborn
Now this was a surprise. I have had horrible experiences with every Elder Scrolls expansion. I find them to be half-assed with dull and oddball storylines that don't fit in or feel like they were a part of the original game. Dragonborn was different though. Even though Solstheim itself was graphically pretty bland, the story was actually quite good and really fit into the world. Having completed the Daedra quests prior to tackling this, the dialog with Haemorous-Mora was unique and took into account my previous dealings with him. It was more than simple series of quests like Dawngaurd and really had a small, but very interesting island to explore. It was nice to see how things had changed from the Morrowind expansion and looking out to see the REd Mountain was an added treat.
Hearthfire
I built a house?? Does that even count as completing it? There wasn't much besides building a house and being able to adopt a kid.
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
So few games are able to walk that fine line between challenging and frustrating and this game does so masterfully. Sure, lives were never an issue in this game, but I felt that the plethora of lives was utilized to keep the pace going and allow you to tackle the challenges between checkpoints without throwing your controller.

Platforming seemed a breeze, Minecart levels were a definite challenge, the rocket levels killed my fingers and the underwater levels were the most difficult for me, as I had a hard time controlling Donkey Kong underwater. Biggest challenge in the game though was the final boss. I spent quite some time trying to tackle him, never feeling it impossible, as I picked up on his patterns easily, it was simply a matter of eliminating those small mistakes. At no point did I get mad at the game, but really felt that the level design offered a large amount of challenge without being cruel.

I would suggest playing single player instead of multi-player. My wife and I attempted it, but with each of us using up the life pool it became very difficult. Add to it the chaos of two people doing different things on screen, triggering events and forcing the other player to play an almost impossible game of catch-up really made it hard to enjoy. I finished the game solo, because of that.

I cannot even fathom playing the DKCR games multi, haha.

Did you get to any of the K levels? Think that's what they were called. I unlocked a few and they were insane, they never had a single checkpoint throughout.

I laughed at your Hearthfire note, but yeah I'd say that's "beaten".

I unlocked a few of the lettered levels, but no K levels. Will probably go back and unlock them later, for sure, but I will most definitely be taking a break on it..my brain hurts from all the platforms :D

Games Beaten: 2013 2012 2011 2010

I enjoyed both Burial at Sea episodes...but I am a total fanboy for the Bioshock series as a whole, I eat up the style and the storytelling, and I've always enjoyed the gameplay…so your mileage may vary. That said, I think Part 2 of the DLC is much stronger: it is a stealth-heavy game where you
play as Elizabeth
and it works quite well as a nice change of pace. Lots of sneaking and tranquilizer darts made it feel more like Thief or MGS than any of the rest of the Bioshock series has, and it was a welcome change of pace. There's also a ton of fan service in both episodes (especially the second) and if this is the last Bioshock-related thing we get I can't much complain.

Microfighters is a Star Wars shmup where everything is made out of Legos. It isn't great, but it is fun and I've been playing it off and on for the past month or so.

Hmm, perhaps I'll get to 50 before today is out after all. I do have a lot of writing to do beforehand, though…

(EDIT: Hmm, that essay's not due until tomorrow…so I suppose I do have a bit more free time today  )

14. Sonic CD - Android/Mobile (June 24)
15. *NEW* Psychonauts - PC (June 30)

Another month in TR, another game beaten. At first, this game looked amazing. If Tim Burton directed a Pixar film, you have the graphic style of this game. But, tiny problems became rather prevalent quickly. A confusing camera, an expensive item that needs to be purchased to make it through the final half of the game, and some questionable difficulties in traversing through the levels. It's a shame that a few poor design decisions made this game unbearable at times, but I still think it's worth it just for the entire package and the humorous writing and voice talent by some recognizable names in the industry.

This is the new standard I will now be using as to whether or not to count all arcade games
It was the can of coke standard until their price rocketed.
This is one of the most wonderful things I've read lately.

How much were said Curly Wurlys and Cokes when you were a kid? A can of Coke was 50p when I was a nipper, and honestly, even then most arcade machines seemed to be 50p -31 a play (what a rip-off!)

I feel I missed the prime of the arcade period, although I remember having a blast on The Simpsons arcade machine when my family went to the seaside in Hunstanton.
