If your argument is based on Nintendo's failure to shoe-horn a poorly-marketed gaming device that hasn't been properly utilized by the company that designed it, then I think you're on pretty shaky ground. It will be the games Nintendo releases that will save (or damn) the Wii-U, not the hardware.BogusMeatFactory wrote: All of these games barely utilize the game pad, like the fan base has asked.

I'm with you. I want to see both; games that push the tech and game play envelope as well as games that hearken back to the 8/16 bit eras.pepharytheworm wrote:I want both kind of games. Some more traditional and some more gamepad centric. But I do think some cool things could be done with F-zero, Metroid and Fire Emblem.

You are right. It will be the games that are released period, not just the games Nintendo Release. The DS was not a success just because of Nintendogs and Brain Age. Those games opened up a plethora of amazing titles that utilized the system in cool and unique ways, as well as other amazing titles that stuck to the formula. Was Nintendogs a game that used a standard control scheme? What about Brain Age? Were these games asked for by the populace? If you think for a second that Nintendo has had successful hardware by creating stereotypical games, that would be false.Retrogamer0001 wrote:If your argument is based on Nintendo's failure to shoe-horn a poorly-marketed gaming device that hasn't been properly utilized by the company that designed it, then I think you're on pretty shaky ground. Look at Metroid Prime....was that toeing the line? Was that what people were asking for? What makes a system great and what makes a company successful is being able to provide something to people that they never even knew they wanted.
The hardware is important as it is meant to be provide a new and different experience. It offers up opportunities for the consumer to do something they can't do on other platforms. Is that so wrong? Is that so horrible of an idea? No.

Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
In fairness, this isn't the best example. There were several 2D Metroid games (Fusion and Zero Mission) released for the GBA around the time Prime was released, and Nintendo (rightfully) could afford to experiment with the console version.BogusMeatFactory wrote:Look at Metroid Prime....was that toeing the line? No, you're not wrong, and I never said new technology was the devil - a few posts back I said there could easily be a middle ground as far as games/tech goes. That's beside the point I was trying to make though - the demand for a new title in a popular franchise has been strong for a long time now, and simply denying the customer that product because it doesn't utilize a poorly-implemented piece of hardware is foolishness.BogusMeatFactory wrote:The hardware is important as it is meant to be provide a new and different experience. Again, look at the Capcom example as far as software goes - they denied Mega Man to the fans for ten years, they took the Resident Evil franchise "to new places" and discovered the fans hated it, and they continually refused to release new games for popular, older IPs. There has to be a balance between trying new things and giving the fanbase products they want to purchase.

I don't feel Nintendo has been withholding what people want though. They wanted a new Zelda, they are getting it, They wanted a new Mario, they got it. When people said, "Stop with the mario!" they stopped. Nintendo has done nothing but cater to the fanbase so far.
They haven't gone too far off into la-la land like the Resident Evil Franchise, but they also have been too conservative and I understand why, but for me, it is something I do not want. They have to be conservative to push the product and increase their numbers.

I have found nine out of ten times codes on used games are still good. Why so many people do not use the boggles the mind LOL.darsparx wrote:I can't decide whether to get mk8 from walmart or gamestop. Both have it for 48 but walmart's is new and that'd guarantee the code hasn't been used(but no gs points *sigh*)

Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
You're absolutely right, but Mario and Zelda get practically annual quality releases, and I think people are just wanting Nintendo to give a bit more love to their other IPs. I don't think anyone will argue that's time for a new F-Zero game, and I've been dreaming of a true console 2D Metroid for over a decade myself. Majora's Mask was released to the sound of crickets back in the N64 days, so it makes sense that the fanbase wants to experience that one again (many for the first time).BogusMeatFactory wrote:I don't feel Nintendo has been withholding what people want though. Another way to look at the Zelda/Mario releases is that, yes, the fans want them (and will always want them) but it's also something Nintendo needs to do to keep the Wii-U relevant. A Nintendo console without either franchise is likely dead in the water.
With the Wii-U on such shaky ground, I'm all for playing it safe with the big titles and popular releases (Zelda, Mario Kart, Donkey Kong, etc.) and it really is what customers want to buy anyway. Maybe we'll see some of these more "radical" titles (2D Metroid, oh noes!) once the Wii-U sells some more units and there is a more established library of games to fall back on.BogusMeatFactory wrote:They haven't gone too far off into la-la land like the Resident Evil Franchise, but they also have been too conservative and I understand why, but for me, it is something I do not want. They are well shit.
I had one and returned it. They are Wii classic controllers and will only work in games that use a Wii controller horizontal or Wii Classic Controllers.
They are not Wii U Pro Controllers and won't work in any game that requires a Pro Controller.
The shoulder button felt like shit as well.
