Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
So, did everyone's Wii consoles suddenly explode? If not, why is everyone so upset? Aren't most of us here fans of playing games on their original hardware?

Doesn't what you propose result in an egregious amount of work. Look...I don't own a classic controller and find it annoying that things like the pro controller can't substitute for it, but guess what? I don't care that much! How many of you people complaining actually own a classic controller already? I know some of you do!Exhuminator wrote:Nothing, because it isn't looking for specific information that is encoded in the Wii Remote bluetooth frequency.Flake wrote:My car will also sync to a wiimote bluetooth signal. But then what does it do?
In that case Nintendo could offer a WiFi to bluetooth adapter that simply converts the WiFi signal of the GamePad into the bluetooth frequency used by Wii Remotes. The transmitter could then encode the frequency of the Wii Remote plus Classic Controller Pro. I think that would work. It would also mean Nintendo would sell less existing Classic Controller (or CC Pro) stock though.isiolia wrote:Based on the link he posted to Eurogamer, the Gamepad is sending input via WiFi, not Bluetooth.
The X360 isn't completely backwards compatible, and the Xbox One isn't at all. The PS3 is only PS2 backwards compatible with the first generation and even then it has lots of issues and the PS4 is not backwards compatible. The Wii U is backwards compatible and works great and still requires the same controllers that you had with the Wii games.
Their mindset is if you had those games before and used the classic controller before, there is no need to go that extra mile to wind through the complexities of making the gamepad or pro controller work. Everyone seems to think it is a simple switch they flip to make it work and it isn't.
No Wii game requires the classic controller exclusively.

With a firmware update it could be looking for that specific information though.Flake wrote:And an emulated Wii is not looking for specific information that is encoded in the WiiU pad bluetooth frequency.
I agree however, it's all about the money, not the technological limitations, that's stopping Nintendo from doing this.
Now what I want to know is does this:
PLAY KING'S FIELD.
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
It sure would make off-TV play of Wii games (and all the stuff they've not yet brought over from the Wii VC) more convenient though.BogusMeatFactory wrote: Their mindset is if you had those games before and used the classic controller before, there is no need to go that extra mile to wind through the complexities of making the gamepad or pro controller work.

Which brings us to the difference between using firmware updates to add features and the immense luxury that is a real life piece of hardware sitting between the controller and the machine.
What that adapter will likely do is run gamecube controller input through a small program and translate it to pro-controller input.
It won't, however, work on Wii games. I wouldn't be surprised if the Gamecube controllers that are being designed to plug into wiimotes would, though.

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

You can use off TV play of Wii Games and use the classic controller.isiolia wrote:It sure would make off-TV play of Wii games (and all the stuff they've not yet brought over from the Wii VC) more convenient though.BogusMeatFactory wrote: Their mindset is if you had those games before and used the classic controller before, there is no need to go that extra mile to wind through the complexities of making the gamepad or pro controller work.

Right, but wanting to use the controller that's built into the screen you'd be looking at seems like a reasonable request.BogusMeatFactory wrote: You can use off TV play of Wii Games and use the classic controller.
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
But that's the rub. The controller isn't built into the screen. The screen and buttons just happen to be housed in the same piece of plastic. They communicate with the console through separate mediums.isiolia wrote:Right, but wanting to use the controller that's built into the screen you'd be looking at seems like a reasonable request.BogusMeatFactory wrote: You can use off TV play of Wii Games and use the classic controller.

Well, technically, both are using Wifi, no? That said, I get it. The Wii OS doesn't access that hardware. Off-TV function works because you can leave the h.264 encoder and Miricast-alike on when you boot into that, but then the Wii U OS closes out (or gets suspended or whatever it does) and you can't toggle it. The Wii side only knows native Wii stuff.Flake wrote: But that's the rub. The controller isn't built into the screen. The screen and buttons just happen to be housed in the same piece of plastic. All I'm saying is that making the Gamepad controller work is, at that point, an obvious request. When Nintendo was implementing off-TV Wii display support, there couldn't have been a day they didn't realize that it would be something people would want.

As I got to the end of the previous page of this thread, I was thinking this exact thing, and then you were the first post on the next page! Any limitations of the Wii mode do not concern me, I haven't even launched the Wii mode on my Wii U. If I wanted to play anything on the Wii, I have mine sitting on the shelf below my Wii U.Retrogamer0001 wrote:So, did everyone's Wii consoles suddenly explode? If not, why is everyone so upset? All of that said, I still think it is cool that you can use the game pad screen for Wii games, and it even has that built in sensor light.
