I thought you might say that. I will wait and hear from Bone before making my final decision, however.

I am out of town next week, but I plan on starting it as soon as I get back on Saturday, June 21. I will send you a PM - or just post in this thread - as soon as I get started on it.

Faxanadu is a really, really good game. Much better than its immediate relative (Xanadu).

It's most certainly a "classic" to action-RPG and Falcom fanatics, but is relatively obscure to most folks.

I say play it if you wanna play it.

(you know it's part of the same series as Legacy of the Wizard, right?)

Is Legacy of the Wizard more of a classic? I am just itching for an NES game right now, and I think that the likelihood of me playing Final Fantasy Tactics this summer is pretty low. I have narrowed my choices to: Clash at Demonhead, Faxanadu, Guardian Legend, and Legacy of the Wizard. Which one do you think would fit best with the spirit of the Summer Gaming Challenge?

Yeesh, none of those is really a reasonable contender as a classic, just because it is old and/or good. The best bet might be Guardian Legend, but surely there are other NES games you haven't played that would fit better. Have you beat R.C. Pro-AM? Played the original FF or all the early DW games? Perhaps something from here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_be ... stem_games?

I'm personally calling bollocks on RC Pro-Am being any more influential or classic than Faxanadu.

The only classic DW game I don't have under my belt is Dragon Warrior II, and I am not exactly chomping at the bit to get through that one. I have also beaten every NTSC game on that list that can be beaten with the exception of 1942, Tiger Heli, and Xevious. R-Type Delta is more than enough of a shmup for me this summer; so, I am not excited about any of those games either.

What about Goonies II? Would that work?

EDIT: I have not beaten the original Bomberman. I may choose that one, but again, the prospect of slogging through it does not excite me.

Legacy of the Wizard is one of the core Dragon Slayer titles while Faxanadu is a spin-off (you can think of Faxanadu as being the equivalent to something like Final Fantasy X-2). So one could argue that LotW is more of a "classic".

That said, Legacy of the Wizard is hard as balls and Faxanadu is a much better game.

Anyhow, out of all the games on your list Guardian Legend is the best pick. Not just in terms of quality, but in terms of classic status.

Holy christ, the original Zelda is cryptic. I'm in dungeon 7 and the bullshit has piled up almost to my neck. Finding the entrance to the damn thing is bad enough, but then giving the expensive, useless Food to that little orange thing and then getting stuck (like I am now) is just ridiculous. How did anyone in the 80's finish this game without the internet? I know word of mouth was huge back then, but wow.
