Also with dumping saves to and from I have heard conflicting reports. Any reviews yet that aren't review early models?

Ferretgamer, any save issues? Controller issues? Yours is 2.0 version were reviews seem to be 1.1 versions.

I haven't had any issues yet with the controller. I've read about some people complaining that the stick pops out of place but I haven't had any problems like that.

I have used an SNES controller for every platform on the Retron. I will test the Genesis and NES controllers later tonight.

I have not dumped any saves manually so I cannot comment on that feature. To be honest, I have been using save states. However, the Retron will automatically remember your place in the game. I popped Yoshi's Island in briefly last night and the Retron remembered my last location when I put it back in today.

So do you have to reload the saves up onto the cart after the game, or can you simply use the save system in game? I'm a little confused on that.

I'm interested, but I really think it would be nice if Hyperkin opened everything OS wise up for people to work on, or someone hacked it up to where other things could be added. Compatibility fixes and such from outside sources could do wonders.

Also, isn't there some forms of light guns or that can work with LCDs and such, like the one on PS3? How much would it take to program or mod something like that up?

FerretGamer, it looks like Super Mario Advance 3 is working right. I've seen reports of the actual SNES Yoshi's Island cartridge freezing as Yoshi tries to morph into a helicopter in world 1-2. Can you do all that on SMA3? I have that and I'd like to try it in my Retron 5 but until they fix the save issue with the GBA games I don't want to risk my in-progress game.

Yes, I had no problems with 1-2. I've completed World 1 in the game today and haven't had any problems up to that point.

I swear I watched some video and they put in a game that said unrecognized, but it played just fine.

Only old school light gun that'll work with modern TVs is the CDi gun. It uses IR tech line the newer systems.

As far as I know, unrecognized games will still play, but there will be no save states or saves transferred to the unit. Case in point: Super Metroid has been coming up as unrecognized but several review videos have it in action and playable.

SO they demo the system with Street Fighter Alpha 2 over a year ago.
Then the thing comes out....and Street Fighter Alpha 2 DOES NOT WORK.

This Hyperkin Smoke and Mirrors show isn't going to fool me anymore I knew as SOON as it got delayed a 2nd time this system would be trash and from what I'm hearing that's just what it is.

I'm also hearing it's wiping saves from carts and doesn't save to cart at all.

I'm putting my Support behind the Super Retro Trio. Granted it has compatibility problems too mostly on the NES end. But at it still has a higher rate of games that work vs Games that don't. YEAH it's not HDMI out but whatever It's cheaper and has a higher Compatibility rate.

It seems like the Retron is pretty picky about the cartridges. I had Super Mario RPG come up as an unknown cartridge. I went back and gave the contacts a more thorough cleaning and the Retron finally recognized the game. I recommend giving the contacts a good cleaning with either a Q-tip and some isopropyl alcohol or a white eraser (Staedtler brand).

Also, a dirty cartridge could be the reason why a legit cartridge coming up as unrecognized will not load. I will use Super mario RPG as an example again as it would not load either until I went back a second time and cleaned the cart thoroughly.

These problems were mentioned across multiple reviews.

If I had room I'd get the original Hardware. A Famicom, a Super Famicom with converters for US games and a switch and S-Video modded Mega Drive. But I just don't have room when I have to get a new Original XBOX and I'm getting a PS4 and Ouya in the near future too. Seems the next best thing to original hardware right now is the Super Retro Trio.

Then again I have Retrocon PS2 controller, a PS2 to Dreamcast converter and a Nester DC disc... It's adequate.

I WANTED the Retron 5 to be good but when it kept getting delayed the writing was on the wall that this thing just simply wasn't going to be any good.
