Well with such a high asking price what do you expect?

Yeah but still, it's the same pattern every time a new console is released. Which goes like this: tons of hype when it's announced. Then when it's released many buy it, expecting there to be tons of games yet most of them don't come out for a month or two(maybe more I'm looking at you watch dogs with your constant delays there for awhile). Then they get pissed and say it's the worst console but in 2-3 years it's a different story. Though wii u doesn't have that luxury of 2-3 years later it seems, since most developers right now are a little wary to put out much on it(though there are lists saying there's tons coming out). Not to mention I think most have been waiting to see nintendo's own games that test the hardware to be released(aka mk8, smash bros, a new zelda, and a new mario). Which those are only coming out, what 2 years later after the console was released? Sure we got the new mario right off the bat it seems but mario kart, and smash bros are just now coming out(and a zelda title is supposedly on the way and might be announced at e3 which it should be anyways).

Doesn't help that Nintendo own franchises have been growing rather sterile as they've started really milking that nostalgia well dry. They still make high quality software, but it's hard to explain to someone why they should pick up the newest installments in these various franchises when all you can say is that "it's still really good."
Mario 3D World is a fantastic game, incredibly well made in pretty much every aspect, and I might even go as far as to call it my favorite game in the franchise since Super Mario World, but let's face it, it's only got a handful of genuinely new ideas. Most everything else is just bringing back stuff from previous games in the franchise, it's all just capitalizing on nostalgia.
It all feels very "safe," which wouldn't be THAT huge a problem if not for the fact that thanks to these sales slumps, we don't really have very much in the way of interesting 3rd party games to pick up the slack.
Yeah, but I think the goal was to create a seamless home and portable environment(which it doesn't seem many want to take true advantage of the console). And yeah super mario 3d world does seem a little too safe. I was actually expecting a true sm64, smss, or smg type game, and this one semi satisfies that from what I've watched online but it's not quite there...
