Yeah I agree for the most part. Although like I mentioned I am very interested in the blu tooth wireless capability. Also it looks like it has an analog stick, which I think will help with shooters (shmups), as sometimes the directional pad just didn't seem precise enough for me (I'm looking at YOU Axelay!).BoneSnapDeez wrote:For anything with more precise controls I think I'd prefer the real deal.

Thanks! Although that is way beyond my skill set.aaron wrote: might be helpful/relevant: http://n00bpwners.com/index.php?/topic/ ... aturn-etc/
I can barely do simple arithmetic.

The stick is a tiny microswitch arcade stick, similar to the one on the Neo Geo Pocket or the Neo Geo pads.graffix_13 wrote:Yeah I agree for the most part. Then even easier to mod the whole shebang into an arcade stick.nilcam wrote:The stick is a tiny microswitch arcade stick, similar to the one on the Neo Geo Pocket or the Neo Geo pads.graffix_13 wrote:Yeah I agree for the most part. i am mostly excited about this thing because i'm sure people are going to hack/mod the shit out of it and i anticipate it essentially becoming a $140 emu box w/ original controller support.

Or you could get a Wii, which is more powerful and has more options for emulating, and you can always buy original controller adapters if thats what your picky about.aaron wrote:i am mostly excited about this thing because i'm sure people are going to hack/mod the shit out of it and i anticipate it essentially becoming a $140 emu box w/ original controller support.
There is better stuff to mod than this Retron 5.
The things id like the Retron 5 for, is backing up Cart based saves, and not having to change TV inputs for other consoles.

In what way is the Wii more powerful? This is just an Android emulator box, admittedly I haven't seen specs, but Android N64 emulators have worked damn well for years, while the Wii one is iffy at best. Not to mention the fact that this'll output HDMI, the Wii maxes out at component. Once you factor in the price of controller adapters, there's not much price difference, plus the Retron 5 has cartridge slots!Hazerd wrote:Or you could get a Wii, which is more powerful and has more options for emulating, and you can always buy original controller adapters if thats what your picky about.aaron wrote:i am mostly excited about this thing because i'm sure people are going to hack/mod the shit out of it and i anticipate it essentially becoming a $140 emu box w/ original controller support.

The Wii was/is a rad emulation machine, especially for the price you can get a used one at these days, but the Retron 5 should end up being significantly more powerful and useful, though of course it'll cost more.

But to get the controller adapters for the Wii, would put you at about the same price point. Mostly since the Gtron Nintendo Wii 4-in-1 Virtua Retro Adapter is difficult to find nowadays.Hazerd wrote:Or you could get a Wii, which is more powerful and has more options for emulating, and you can always buy original controller adapters if thats what your picky about.aaron wrote:i am mostly excited about this thing because i'm sure people are going to hack/mod the shit out of it and i anticipate it essentially becoming a $140 emu box w/ original controller support.
