Let's take Resident Evil Remake for example. I've been checking on Ebay and realized that a gamecube copy is more expensive than its updated version, Archives. The other interesting thing is that Archives is actually visually better looking than the original on the gamecube and it's also cheaper to buy now, so why did the price go up for the Gamecube version? Is it because Gamecube in general is hard to get nowadays that sellers have decided to raise the price for everything?
I just picked up a copy of Street Fighter II Animated Movie Uncut version and I heard it was the best version, but the first copy still goes for a very high price.
Can someone please explain to me why some versions cost more
Re: Can someone please explain to me why some versions cost
Plain and simple I think you answered your own question. Some games are hard to find, others rare, and just plain the best version of a game according to most you will talk to. Though some people just want the original version of the game to see what it was like...

It's funny because I ended up picking up Gamecube version again. I sold it like years ago just because I got Archives, then I found RE 0 and RE4 for a dollar each and thought maybe I should get them back just for collection purposes. I checked on Ebay and every damn seller was selling it for at least 20 dollars. I was lucky to find one for much less after weeks of searching.darsparx wrote:Plain and simple I think you answered your own question. Yeah sometimes it's just easier to wait or buy it in a bundle. It seems like less people are willing to buy a bundle and you end up getting deal along with the game you want and maybe a few others. Now if only I stayed with that...of course I still need to raid the local pawns and thrifts(one had a copy of elder scrolls oblivion I thought about grabbing even though it was a pc game just because i've never played elder scrolls I'm going to kick myself if that one's gone by the time I go back) but probably won't until next month...

... I'm a big RE fan. Archives is a direct port of the Gamecube remake. It runs in the same resolution & same aspect ratio (4:3). No upgrades I noticed to character models.
Simple answer in that scenario, GCN collecting is hot right now & Wii games are cheap. Also, there are 5 RE titles on the GCN so RE collectors gravitate towards the system.

actually, I've discovered that Archives support 480P, while the Gamecube versions don't. Graphics are still the same, though. As for aspect ratio, it is usually easier to play around with that on GC version as opposed to the Wii version where you need to go under Wii Options if you wanted to to play the game stretched.Jagosaurus wrote:... True @ progressive. You can force CGN games into 480p though a couple of diff ways. You can always stretch a 4:3 picture but if it's not a native widescreen it looks odd IMO.JC48573 wrote:actually, I've discovered that Archives support 480P, while the Gamecube versions don't. Either way, amazing game. I need to play back through this & Zero.
GCN collecting is going up. Time to hop on it if possible.

I'll see your original question, and raise you one more:
Why are versions of games for the same gen different prices? Even right after they launch? Example: When Metal Gear Solid HD Collection first came out on the 360 and PS3, it had a Limited edition version with art book and stuff. Both copies were like $69 new.
After only a few months, the 360 version could still be bought for around $80, but the PS3 version was over $100. Someone explained it to me like this: Since the PS3 is the less popular system (over the 360) there were fewer copies sold of the game. Maybe even fewer made. So the PS3 version is more "rare."
The same might be true of your GCN and Wii comparisons. The GCN wasn't really the success that Nintendo had hoped, and I'm guessing that poor software sales helped out with that. So it makes sense that the GCN version is more rare than the Wii version, which I'm sure sold like gangbusters. That's my opinion on it anyway. Who really knows why prices do the things they do? I mean, Earthbound was not a rare game by any means, but I'm sure you are aware of the money it commands. Why? Who knows.

Re: Can someone please explain to me why some versions cost
A possible reason is that practically no PS3 games have region protection (only Persona 4 Arena comes to mind). I've noticed the newer releases have even started to put an All region label instead of 1 or whatever.
In that particular case, it's also the platform that has Metal Gear Solid and MGS4 available, so if people are wanting to keep things on the same platform it's appealing.

Re: Can someone please explain to me why some versions cost
Because people see a game like "Resident Evil" and think with that name brand and the fact it's old, they can charge whatever they want for it. Don't pay it. Remake is all right, not as good to me as the original RE on PSX. Don't pay more than $10 for it
They have escaped into the mansion where they thought it was safe, yet.
