Not sure about DLC but don't let the fact that there are only four "maps" (movies) get you down. Each "movie" has multiple levels in it and there are multiple routes you can take in each level.
A side from that it isn't a typical FPS game. You can play the same movie a thousand times and not get bored with it. The game is very good at mixing things up and sending zombies/smokers/boomers/tanks/witches at different places. It'll also punish you if you aren't moving through the level fast enough by sending more hordes of zombies you way.
It's a very team based game and impossible to beat without the help of the other players (even the CPU is very helpful). You spend a lot of your time saving the other players and making sure everyone has enough health to make it out alive.
Even people that aren't fans of FPS games will enjoy Left 4 Dead I think. I encourge you to give it a try....good luck finding a copy of it right now though. They only made 500,000 copies in the first production run and so far they have sold over 400,000.
BTW the game was only developed by 11 people IIRC. They were not expecting it to be as big of a hit as it is. In other words it's the sleeper hit of the season.
