Are these essentially direct ports of the older games?
The anniversary collection was handled really well and definitely a good way to play the games.

I have updated the OP w/ the schedule. If anyone wants to recommend some changes, please feel free to do so.

For anyone still needing the games, the Mega Man X collection is now going for $10.89 NEW at Amazon!

Keep in mind that the GameCube version of the anniversary collection has the buttons reversed and you can't remap them. I bought the PS2 version after reading that complaint in multiple reviews.

The people at Atomic Planet who thought it was a good idea to reverse the buttons and not give an option to change the controls, deserve their own ring in Hell.

Thankfully the X collection on the GCN fixes this problem. Too bad that version costs about 6-7 times as much as the PS2 version.

Truth be told, the X collection is the only real reason I would ever own a PS2. Too bad I already bought a PS1 for MMX4 though.

Too bad the Gameboy collection never became a reality. IV and V GB are real classics.

I highly recommend the Zero Collection on DS as well.

And on another annoying collection note is the fact that the X Collection only has the 32 bit version of X3. I really don't like the redone music even if X3's compositions aren't quite the best in the series to begin with.

Hrmm I really ought to remember this, I really want to play through the series but right now only own the fourth game...I know what games I'd talk about during the free week(battle network I'm looking at you...those were great and each game just got better with every iteration :D). Maybe i'll get the ps2 or gamecube collection just so I can play....for some odd reason I don't want to play them out of order and i only have the fourth game so it really throws me for a loop...

It's bad enough that the collection doesn't allow you to remap buttons. Having the default control scheme be so shitty is just kicking us while we're down.

The Mega Man games are the only [non-Nintendo] games I can think of off the top of my head that have their pre-Advance Game Boy entries be as good as their console counter-parts.

It is kind of nice to have that version of the game on the compilation as, aside from the PC version, the US never saw the 32-bit version of X3.

The Anniversary Collection is certainly a great package deal, including so many hard-to-find games in one bundle. It's far from perfect, with issues like emulation issues on Mega Man 7 (including not having the ending animation), but having MM1-8 plus the 2 arcade games is offering a lot. I wouldn't expect to see a collection like that now, with the Virtual Console and Playstation Store and whatnot.

I was really hoping for the Gameboy collection to get finished too! Since it never made it though, Capcom's able to make a bigger deal out of this Mega May eShop deal (since Mega Man 5 Gameboy is a fairly rare and highly demanded title).

I like the idea of playing certain titles each week and discussing them, but free discussion would be cool too!

If you get the anniversary collection, you will be able to participate for the entire month. The collection has the NES games but also one game from the SNES and PS eras. Additionally, you get the bonus games which you could discuss during the free week along with Battle Network. 8)
