Should work now. For some reason the BBC parser ignored the "!" on the URL natively.darsparx wrote:Might want to change that link though, it only goes to the wiki page on what a gimmick is XD

Re: Any decent NES hidden gems?
I just found an NES hidden gem I have never heard of and is really good. And the best part is that it is super affordable. I just bought a copy for $7 That game is Whomp-Em. It is basically a clone of Mega Man where you play an Indian (Native American if you want to be PC, but this game is not PC haha) you can chose your stages and each boss gives you a special power which you can switch to on the fly. Check out some gameplay

Re: Any decent NES hidden gems?
In Japan, Whomp 'Em was Saiyuuki World 2. The first Saiyuuki World was originally going to be a port of Wonder Boy In Monster Land before Jaleco ran into licensing issues with Sega. Figure that out!
From 1up.com -
Whomp 'Em was part of the large army of Mega Man clones that dominated the NES era, except that it featured a Native American fighting through mountains and forests. The original game was actually Saiyuuki World 2, which was meant to be the sequel to the above Wonder Boy rip-off. The hero of Saiyuuki World 2 wielded the Ru Yi Bang, the Monkey King's legendary extending rod from Journey to the West, while the Native American boy from Whomp 'Em used a spear that worked in the same manner. Some slight graphical changes were made to mask the fact that the game was supposed to take place in ancient China -- for example, panda bears were changed into grizzly bears. However, the changes still don't explain why a Native American is fighting through a bamboo forest.

Thanks Exed! never knew that about Whomp em now that you mention it I did find it strange that the hills in the background looked very Chinese. After watching the Japanese version I still think I prefer the USA bastardized version haha, has a certain charm about it. Great game though! Oh and speaking about great games here is another Hidden Gem I recently found, and pretty affordable too, $15-$20. Shadow of the Ninja by Natsume. Great little Ninja game much like Ninja Gaiden where you get power ups. Check it out

DID YOU KNOW: Ninja Gaiden Shadow (GB) is based on a GB port of Shadow of the Ninja (which is a very solid game, BTW).

Re: Any decent NES hidden gems?
The other nice thing about Shadow of the Ninja is it is 2 player. No mention of Mega Man clones is complete though without bringing up The Krion Conquest (Magical Kids Doropie).

This is exactly why I come to this site...to make my wallet hurt more
all laughing aside though I think I think before I get the mega clones I need megaman 1-3(already have 4 don't understand why dad didn't have 1-3 or smb 2). Would be nice though if Castlevania I wasn't so much on the expensive side though compared to the other ones ha ha

Re: Any decent NES hidden gems?
Since we're talking about Mega Man ripoffs influenced games, I think the Power Blazer game is worth mentioning:

Mega who?
Konami's Wai Wai World games always felt a little Mega Man-y to me also:
