heh I always wondered why Nintendo doesn't make new NES and SNES consoles, surely there is a market for it. I guess they feel they can make more money selling $8 Romz
It's beyond foolish, especially in limited quantities. They could charge $99 for new, boxed copies of Earthbound, Chrono Trigger - hell, any popular rpg series - make 25,000 copies, and sell every one. Consoles are the same way, I would love a new SNES in the box and would happily pay $150 for it.
QFT!, i would buy a boxed copy of Earthbound for its original retail price in a heart beat, i mean if you dont own one and want one, why wouldnt you?
It's apparent that developers/publishers dont like the used game market, so why not put out new copies of retro games?

I don't think we have a "digital re-releases" thread going on, so it kinda fits. It's sad that most developers don't care that there is a physical market for re-releases of games - look at how fast many collector's editions sell out (Drakkengard 3, I'm looking at you). Limited quantity is a thing that could be exploited handily if a publisher had the guts to do so, especially in a collector-oriented market.

I think you may see a small initial dip in prices/used copies when it drops, then it will go right back to around where it is now. Though... digital releases may actually lower the ceiling permanently for it, they almost assuredly stymie further price explosions/severe increases (unless the OG game somehow remains the "better" version).
$0.02
Ps1 games on PSN have historically had an effect on physical copies. This isnt the case so much with cart based games. But games like Suikoden I, Xenogears, FFVII, and Valkyrie Profile all took hits in price after the psn psone classic release.

Yeah but what scares me is all this downloaded stuff is under a license agreement. Doesn't that mean one day a discontinued service would prevent us from accessing our content? And if so look how unstable Sonys network can be being down periods at a time.
I've had Far Cry 4 (physical copy) completely not work at times when they just went down.
Either way I can careless and rather have the actual game. The market is the market and I'm keeping most of my games nowadays so it doesn't affect me. I don't see Klonoa's prices being affected, in fact the Wii version is even gaining value as of late so let's hope it's only on the PS1 stuff that already has tons of copies floating around.
If you can see the future while remembering the past, you may just have control of the present.

Valkyrie Profile???? Pretty sure that's not on the PSN.
