@ noise's earlier post: i have like half of my old CD's and liners but no jewel cases anymore. what id love to do is find a good craigslist ad for early to mid 90s hip hop vinyl and if im really lucky, some issues of the source from that era one day too, haha

How is twelve reasons to die? I have it on my computer but have yet to burn it to a CD and put it in my car so I can actually listen to it.

it's incredible! Adrien Younge's band did the music. Sounds like a 70's Italian horror film score - which is why I got the deluxe ed for the bonus instrumental disc. Seriously one of Ghost's best albums in years. Which is saying a lot.

^with regards to physical CDs, I made the mistake of selling my 250+ collection last year to help generate wedding funds. Missing them now though, and have started picking up the odd album as CDs are very cheap at the moment. I actually picked up the complete Run DMC discography for £8. The issue I have is that it is hard to limit the collecting aspect of it as I also want to collect video games (N64/Wii U) which you can at least limit to consoles. CDs also don't look like they'll increase in value any time soon, whereas videogames are starting to hold their value, particularly Nintendo.
Currently playing Splinter Cell: Blacklist

collecting-wise, it's not really about value to me at all. (Most) CD's you can find really cheap. It's just more about having these nice physical booklets and this item to hold. There's also something to be said about choosing "ok, I'm gonna listen to THIS album" and popping it in, rather than having hundreds of mp3's on my phone and having a tough time deciding what to listen to so instead just hitting shuffle or turning on Pandora.

Last night I decided to listen to Speakerboxxx while playing Street Fighter 4 w/ the dudes. I seriously cannot remember the last time I paid attention to that album beginning to end, but it's gotta be close to a friggin decade. Spoiler: it sounds better now than it did then.

Feelin' good feelin' great. Feelin' great feelin' good how are you?

That and I love Kanye's VH1 Story Tellers.

I think I still have the jewel cases for most of my hip-hop albums, thought I started to get rid of them and just keep them in binders at some phase in my life.

that album is an insane mess. I love 808's And Heartbreak, so I'm glad he put it out then. But man oh man, the actual "story telling" aspect haha.

That's a good convo though - live hip hop albums. There's not a ton of good ones I can think of. (Actual albums, not video releases).

Jay-Z's MTV Unplugged w/ The Roots is prob my favorite. Came out right after Blueprint, so pulls heavily from my favorite era of Jay's work. And then has a good run of older classics in there, too.

The Roots Come Alive is... pretty good. I mean, it's really good really, except that I've actually seen The Roots live and that album just doesn't capture them as well as it should.

umm... Ghostface Killah's Live In NYC is pretty solid. Good set list.

I guess the same could be said for Kool Keith's Ultra-Octo-Doom.

I've got BDP's live album on its way to me actually. Did PE have a 90's live album, or was that only released on video? I know De La put out that live at Tramp's album, but I don't remember ever hearing it.

That's exactly it. Sometimes Kanye is sharing extremely deep and intellectual personal stuff. Then he teeters and goes into a tirade of controversy, conspiracy and self-absorbedness. Doesn't detract from how much of a musical genius he can be, but it's lol what sometimes.

I like Linken Park's Live in Texas album, but that's again Hybrid and not straight hip-hop.
John Legend's Live in Philadelphia is great, but that's more R&B.
Roots Come Alive is awesome.
Jay Z's MTV Unplugged is great.
Cypress Hill Live at the Fillmore, check that one out.
