The HDD & cracking makes not sense to me. If you're getting it to crack, buy an Ouya IMO....or use your PC.
They lost me when they took out the composite hook up.
Cool machine if you have a TV with HDMI in only & piles of carts lol. Otherwise, I'm a bit confused... esp on the ROM front... thought the draw was the cart slots? I can hook my laptop up to the TV via HDMI & Bluetooth a controller to it...
I find it an odd mix of features... real carts, HDMI, upscaled resolution, & possibility of ROMs. Not for me but to each his own.

That being said, having an emulation box with hdmi, built in controller converters/ports, and built in cart readers for $100 is a pretty cool package; decent price, and no fuss with set up or customization. But there are other systems that can emulate and more. If one already has a PC or media computer hooked up to their tv, this doesnt offer much different.
Yeah you can get a Retrode, which allows for effectively the same thing (to a degree) as the Retron 5, just in a more complex package. It does get a bit pricier with the different expansions, but it's also available for purchase immediately.

Good news.
And apparently it's not available to order on Amazon or NewEgg right now. Sold out?

I was at the midwest gaming classic this weekend and saw the Retron 5 but not in action, apparently it broke and they couldn't get it working again. Not a good sign....

I'm joking.
I don't dare set foot outside of New England or eastern Canada.
