One thing I didn't realize until I used the original DS outdoors is that it is actually playable in direct sunlight. It and the GBA SP use a reflective rear screen that works in direct light with the internal light turned off. The GBA micro and DS Lite have a non reflective screen intended to be back-lit, so they are extremely difficult and sometimes impossible to see in outdoor daylight.BoneSnapDeez wrote:The original DS phat is beautiful. Perfect size and weight - plus full GBA support. It's the only model of DS I own or want.
I discovered this from all my time sitting on a bench while my daughter was at the playground. I intentionally used a regular DS for this very reason. Also, it made the games' contrast look normal, instead of washed out, since many games were designed for the GBA's very dark, front-lit screen.
