Done that. My patio door is not locked unless someone else does it, and then I need to find the key-keeper rock or I have to jump through the one window that doesn't have a stick.

Living just outside of Detroit it is funny watching people not from here take a step back. Even when I lived in Chicago people gave you a second look if you grew up here. I still find it funny because really it's no different than growing up anywhere else it's just right now a little rougher in spots and you need to be a bit more self aware.

Canada seems to be ridiculously safe. The "year of the gun" had 50 shootings, mostly gang related. I've never felt threatened at night anywhere in the GTA. The worst thing that has happened to anyone I know is having loose change stolen from an unlocked car.

Thefts happen everywhere. In my experience they're mostly petty except in Prince George and Edmonton some total loss occurred. The drama is usually blown over quickly and the community provides until the victim is able to recover. I've thrown into the pot a bunch of times for theft recovery. I hate to see someone lose their bike or longboard when it was their life.

I live in semi-rural bushland... so no. Although there are a lot of Bikies around who get raided for their pot crops. They also seem to have some influence on local businesses, but they don't bother the general public.
There are some break-ins every now and again, but I've always felt safe walking around my local neighborhood. Nothing but families and retires.

UPDATE 4/11/14 @ 2:30 p.m.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Charleston Police are releasing additional information about what led up to a stabbing on the city's west side Friday afternoon.

Police say a fight over a stolen pair of pants led up to the stabbing that injured one man at a home on 6th Street.

Charleston police say Kenny Miller was arguing with his sister and her fiancé Jeremy Saunders, when he allegedly got a baseball bat and attacked the pair. That's when investigators say Saunders stabbed Miller in the stomach.

Miller is expected to recover from his injuries. He will be charged with two counts of malicious wounding.

At this point, police don't plan to file charges against Saunders.

Those must have been a damn good pair of pants.
