Don't know how many replies this thread will get...

If anyone believes they live in a 'safe' area, they are so misinformed its sad. There is nowhere safe on Earth.

Now that I've said that, I'm honestly not sure how dangerous it is where I live. I'm not totally in the country, but I'm about 10 miles or so from any actual towns or anything, so I personally feel better about it in that matter. Now, I live next to an area called "Little Mexico", a group of about 8 or so houses where many hispanic people live. About 2 years ago, there was a rape and some gang violence down there. Hasn't been any problems since.

I'm in Oregon, we have some of the lowest crime rates per population in the country. Downtown Portland is very heavily populated, but it's relatively safe. It's not like other cities in the country.

It's mostly because we actually have fairly well funded police forces and people actually call the cops when shit happens.

Of course nowhere on the planet is "safe", but in comparison to other areas, it's pretty good here.

Except for drunk drivers on the weekends, it's pretty safe and quiet in the small rural town I live in.

There were 2 school shootings near the town I live. Wannabe gang members of multiple races are around. Some racists but those types are everywhere. I think there's a Hells Angels chapter close to the freeway entrance. That's about all the 'real' danger that's around here but the real complaining is the weather. Ferocious during the summer.

Any idea how big of a chapter? I'm just kind of interested, seeing as a couple of chapters I've seen give off the illusion of being large, while only really having 7-10 people.

Yeah, where I'm currently living is not so safe. Yeah, I do live in mexico. But like everywhere there are rich and poor neighborhoods.

Knock on wood! My house hasnt been broken into. Been living in this neighborhood since january. Lots of neighbors help keep an eye out for each other. At first I was a little worried, but now

I live on a semi populated street on the edge of the "colonia" (pre named neigborhoods). Farther in, about 4 or 5 blocks in you dont want to walk down there at night.

MY Colonia is Called ROBLEDO in Mexicali, Mexico. From rumors I heard from people, this hood was really bad back in the mid 80's. People would hide here from the cops and the cops wouldnt dare go in here.

But now, there is a higher police presence here. Its been that way for quite a few years. Cops are still corrupt and do what they want, but they get scrutinzed more. So it looks like they are doing a better job.

Yeah Mexico is known for their violence, but if you stay away from suspicious areas, dont mess with the wrong people and mind your own business, You can live a normal life.

If I say Mexicali is the safest city along the border, I'd be lying. But its kinda true. Since Mexicali is a capital theres a higher government presence here. Other cities are much more dangerous. The cartels and the police and the drugs are all over, some places quite hidden and some are out in the open.

There is drugs and other stuff going through mexicali. Some of it ends up in Tijuana. There is more incentive and a higher rate of hiding product over in the San Diego area than here in Mexicali. Mexicali is on the border with Calexico California and its a pretty small city. Some drugs may get thru. But actually more stuff is smuggled through Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.

Just recently a small town to the east of us was busted with a drug tunnel.

http://articles.cnn.com/2012-07-12/us/u ... -s-phoenix

Lots of tunnels have been discovered in the past decade or so. And the cartels will keep doing it.

Sorry if I deviated from the topic.

I live in mexico and I'm used to it by now. I cant afford to live in the US anyways. Rent is too much and its way cheaper to live here and commute to the US.

You aren't gonna get kidnapped if you come down here. Theres lots of things to do down here. Just like in any large city.

Dont believe the hype. Be wary of you surroundings. Like others have said, its dangerous no matter where you live.

It's just a little clubhouse or something to hang out. This is a pic from Google Maps.

Ahh, ok. Nothing too bad. I kinda doubt they would run drug or anything too serious out of that one.

My neighborhood's pretty reasonably safe. There's some bad parts of town, sure, but things like muggings are pretty rare.

It's about as safe a place to live as one could reasonably expect.
