Uh oh...It sounds like we need a refresher course on supply and demand...

Also the idea that emulation was created, or used, to simply "play for free" is a fallacy. I'd wager that most folks here who enjoy emulation got into it for the hacking, homebrews, translations, etc. It hasn't changed what we buy or collect.
Sure it has. I don't have unlimited shelf space. I won't pay for shipping on a cart of Double Dragon. But I will download it, make it full screen and play it with my PC controller. So what if my PC dies? I have it on a USB stick that has 10,000 uses minimum, plus I can buy a new PC for everyday use anyway.

I'm saying older technology shouldn't be as much as newer technology. Period. Any SNES cart over the price of a 2014 game is stupid. It's old. It's out dated. Neither of those statements are incorrect. I can't break myself to compete with someone's nostalgia, but I should be able to play the games, too.

Fantastic. I'll offer you MSRP for Aero Fighters, Earthbound, and Mega Man X3.

I have no clue why this is so difficult for some people to swallow: You don't determine price, the market does. However, one can charge whatever price they want.

We're talking the very basics of business. Supply and demand, price points...this is middle school level knowledge.

Blanket statements in the likes of "Why would anyone pay more for an old X when you can get a new X?" are mind boggling stupid.

I'll dumb it down a bit.

Remember Beanie Babies? Or Comic Books?

Some people really liked those plush dolls and funny pages. In fact, people spent mortgage payment type coin on pieces of paper and cotton stuffed with polyester.

Why? Because people wanted them, there was a limited supply, and people realized they could make a chunk of change by selling them at high prices.

And "disturbing" shouldn't be associated with price unless you are talking something icky like slave labor. Someone selling Smash Bros. for $10,000,000 isn't disturbing. Dumb, yeah, but not disturbing.

Patience, all that is required.

1986 Donruss Jose Canseco Rookie card at peak of Baseball cards was 50+ dollars. I got three for 5 bucks total, shipped about 4 years ago LOL.

Once the people willing to pay these prices get the games they want then the market will die and they will all laugh about the stupid prices they paid. Damn people, I once paid 300 bucks for a 1.6 gb hard drive!!!!! It was the biggest drive available at the time but still, 300 LOL. Supply will overwhelm demand at some point and prices will drop. If all the other crashes are an indicator, the deal will be out of control.

You cannot even give away most Beanie Babies, and my baseball card collection is valuable to me only.

Just a little patience.......

A friend of mine has a Donruss triple pack, each face card is a Jose Canseco rookie card. He still think it's pretty neat.

But here's what's even neater: One of our friend's looked at the pack and asked "Who is Joe-say Can-sicko?". That friend is a tax law specialist for the IRS.

We can't be smart at everything.
