Disturbing prices on N64 games

Post by jvalentine98 »

I recently got my N64 out of storage, now that my nephew is old enough to be interested in games and able to play them with me. I've got a few classics, Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, Resident Evil 2 and some of the famous wrestling games. I wanted to find other games we could play and did an amazon search for "Nintendo 64 games." Much to my horror, the prices are disturbing. As of this writing, the cheapest copy of Smash Bros is $47. That's probably label ripped, marker writing, etc. But that's the cheapest. Kirby is $24 and Mario Party is $38.

I have a gamecube, too and don't get me started on those prices.

I told my nephew that I didn't play newer games because I no longer wanted to spend $400 on a console and $50 per game just for a few hours of entertainment, but now that I see what the used prices are on Nintendo games, I'm reconsidering getting a new system. Might as well, right??

I understand these people with them want to make as much money as possible. But I'd have to be completely freaking stupid to pay that much.

Still not as bad as the SNES, I was surprised at how long the N64 stayed cheap. Seems those days are numbered

I've been posting about this in different topics for a few months now.

The N64 bug is about to bite.

There are now 20 somethings wanting their first console they've owned. And since retrogame collecting is now in. re-sellers are capitalizing and making money on those games.

Not to mention prices will go up on fully working, pristine N64 controlers. Not many out there survived intact. Many suffer from loose analog or are broken.

So yeah. get your N64 stuffs before they get even more absurdly higher.

Heh. I guess it's $50+ a pop for a name brand game, no matter the age! Damn retro gaming and the internet. Back in 2001 I could find classic NES games for less than $10. Not so anymore.

well at least most N64 games are still under their original MSRP, not many carts that break the $50 mark on yet let alone the $100 mark unlike the SNES

Do me a favor and check out the prices for Hagane, Aero Fighters, Earthbound, Mega Man 7, Metal Warriors, Mega Man X2, and Mega Man X3, all for the SNES. You will think twice about complaining about N64 game prices once you see the prices for those games.

Not to trash the thread or anything, but this is a trend we've been seeing for a while now with all Nintendo games on just about every system and is really nothing to be surprised about. NES, SNES, N64, Cube, and very soon now, Wii. Prices have been climbing steadily for the past few years on all of these consoles and it's only going to get worse as time goes on. As has already been mentioned, prices on the rare SNES games are criminally insane, and many NES games are right up there with them. I don't understand the infatuation with the Gamecube library right now, especially since the PS2 prices have remained very reasonable (for the most part).

There are still about 60 trillion N64 games that are cheap as balls. Great games like Blast Corps, Jet Force Gemini, Hybrid Heaven, Mischief Makers, etc. for for a few bucks each. You can't say this about any SNES games, outside of a few sports titles.

Most games are under five bucks. Save picking up Conker or Zelda's, you can build a decent N64 library for practically nothing.

To be honest, that couldn't be closer to the truth especially for me. I'm 19 but grew up with the n64 but I still haven't been one of the ones to go out and grab any more n64 stuff but I want to. We had dk64, SM64, LoZ: OoT, and a few arcade style games along with the wwe and a nascar game. There's still a few first parties out of that I'm missing but I still have the 64, as well as a few gems I want to get eventually but I'm more worried about my other systems where there are so many games I do know about compared to the 64 library that I do want to get...

Well the n64 and gamecube both are systems 19 and 20 somethings like me grew up on so it kinda makes sense. We loved the system and if we did't personally have it we're getting them now and what games we did play but didn't own at the time either. But I can see why this is happening and I'm already trying to get what deals i can when I see a game super cheap at game stop for ds and wii. Especially since with ds even they've put some of those games in a bin labeled 9.99 and under and while there is some games above that mark both ds and wii seem to be getting the phasing out treatment slowly but surely at stores.

@jval if I were you i'd just get a wii or even ds and collect for those, there's plenty of semi-modern type games on both of those systems that aren't too bad in price and if you look at the right gamestop there's some great gems in the bargain bins. I just can't afford to clean them of most of the ones I want ha ha but one day soon I'm going try to ;)
