Disturbing prices on N64 games

I'm saying older technology shouldn't be as much as newer technology. Period. Any SNES cart over the price of a 2014 game is stupid. It's old. It's out dated. Neither of those statements are incorrect. I can't break myself to compete with someone's nostalgia, but I should be able to play the games, too.

I once told a friend of mine I found an NES at a flea market for $25. He said he'd give $5 for it. He said it was great and the games were good, but it's 1985 tech. I couldn't logically disagree. I could say nothing but, "Yeah man. It is old and $25 is a bit much for a machine made when we were babies!"

Luckily, the N64 has a relatively small library and it's even smaller when you cut out all of the sports games, which makes up about 25% of the library. It's a pretty easy console to collect for.

Cutting out the sports games is a mistake! They're great!

I'm talking more about stuff like Madden 64 - 2001, Allstar Baseball, etc.

You mentioned earlier in the thread that you can't justify spending time hunting for deals on games. Now, it appears that you are saying you shouldn't have to pay high prices for them either. I think you're in for a real challenge. Best of luck to ya.

They are old games that are exactly the same as they were the day they were released. Nothing's changed about them, except the amount of time that has passed since release day.

I'm making all the arguments for the guy who thought up emulation. Basically, screw you and your high prices, I will play the games I want for nothing. Take that!

I understand your logic and in a perfect world that would be the case. Unfortunately, it just doesn't work that way. This is far more complex than the way you are looking at it especially from economics point of view.

Things have changed. There are far fewer games in circulation. Games have been destroyed, boxes tossed, discs scratched, stickers applied, Ballz carts with mysterious stains.

Also the idea that emulation was created, or used, to simply "play for free" is a fallacy. I'd wager that most folks here who enjoy emulation got into it for the hacking, homebrews, translations, etc. It hasn't changed what we buy or collect.
