If the cord isn't too bent up you should be able to wrap it the way it wants to. Just a hint, it's not around the controller itself... ever. :D You know how a wire is tied and wrapped when you first open up your system? That's the way the wire wants to bend. If you wrap it up this way that should avoid most of the main concerns of wrapping up a cord.

Now this might require the extra annoyance of a rubber band or preferably a twist tie but if you're trying to avoid your wire getting cracked it would be worth it.

Incidentally that's a very nice solution for controller storage. Though I did see a 4 controller rack being sold for 15 bucks at a recent game expo in my area. It wasn't too bad.
So glad I'm not the only one who does that. I thought I was obsessive compulsive or something! Or maybe we all are? Who knows! My Fiancée totally takes the piss out of me for saving the tie wraps and wrapping my controllers up after use.

I've been wrapping cords and even unraveling them without due care (I used to frequently hold onto the end of the cord and just let the controller unravel down to the floor!) for the better part of two decades and not a single controller has been broken or even injured in the process. Anecdotal evidence, I know, but I've owned a lot of controllers.

Of course, for the more rare controllers (of which I own enough), I take a little more caution.
