Cheap DIY controller stand

Post by CantStrafeRight »

Recently I decided I couldnt keep all the my games console controlers pluged in all the time as it was getting too much of a mess around me tv.

I didn't want to have them all in a drawer and I dind't want them on a book shelf because of the space they would take up. but after a bit of thinking I came up with the perfect solution.

I used some cheap dvd racks I had and put slimline dvd cases in as shelfs. I then turned the dvd racks to face the wall so that I wouldnt pull the empty cases out with a pad.

I get paranoid with all the wrapping and unwrapping that metal fatigue will set in and end up causing breaks in the wires. Especially right where the cable meets the controller, just look at the tension in the cables on those dreamcast controllers for instance. Of course, leaving them plugged in and tangled and likely to be stepped on is probably not much better. Who knows.

Really neat idea. If you're worried about screwing up the wires, just be careful to wrap them up loosely and unravel them with the plug in end instead of the controller end.

I would so kick your arse at Shaq-fu.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed Shaq-Fu. :) It's one of those gems that sticks out like a sore thumb.

On the cord issue there is another option. Every cord for every controller you have ever had wants to wrap a certain way. If the cord isn't too bent up you should be able to wrap it the way it wants to. Just a hint, it's not around the controller itself... ever. :D You know how a wire is tied and wrapped when you first open up your system? That's the way the wire wants to bend. If you wrap it up this way that should avoid most of the main concerns of wrapping up a cord.

Now this might require the extra annoyance of a rubber band or preferably a twist tie but if you're trying to avoid your wire getting cracked it would be worth it.

Incidentally that's a very nice solution for controller storage. Though I did see a 4 controller rack being sold for 15 bucks at a recent game expo in my area. It wasn't too bad.

I've been doing that lately. I save all my twist ties that come with wires and I brought home a bunch of rubber bands from work.
