I don't really have time to hunt. Wish I did but it isn't going to happen. First, I would have to drive about 50 miles to get to a game store that isn't Gamestop. I work, a lot, and have a fiance, have household duties, have other hobbies. I can't really justify spending my free time hunting for games I might or might not find. That's what the internet is for.
Then alas, be prepared to pay...
Retrogamer, I have to agree with jvalentine on this one. Here is my opinion and my experience and it's true in a way that the internet is a better route.
I live in Worcester ma. The second biggest city in ma the first being boston. I have 4 thrift stores and 3 flea markets, and a couple pawn shops. When I was collecting and hoarding multiple systems and trying to sell duplicates on ebay and this was just a year ago. I would go to all the thrift stores, and pawn shops 3-4 days a week and go to the flea markets on sat and sunday. 85% of the time I found shit during the week and only found people at the flea markets have the phones and pretty much use ebay prices or just a little under.
I was doing that for 6 month's or so when my wife asked me to just do a research and tell me how much you spend on a weekly bases with food and gas and everything else to until you found a so called "gem"
So It took 40.00 in gas, 38.00 in food because your going to get hungry looking so you need coffee and lunch or supper, 11 hrs of driving so there's wear and tear to your car and daily disappointment to only find some snes games at 2.99 worth 7-15.00 and there the common crap. Zelda, Mario world, final fight, street fighter 2 and a couple wrestling games. So in a weeks run I wasted all that time and wear and tear to my car, gas and I still had to fill up again so it was another 40.00 for gas so I can go to work for a few snes games to play.
They say it's the thrill to find a gem but think of it, you guys should really check and do the math. In the long run it's a lot better to get games on ebay,amazon hell even craigslist. Honestly do the math I may not get games every time I go out like you guys or I may have just bad luck but The second biggest city in ma and I never find crap anymore. Hell even employees have been saying at like savers they never get anything that's because people know now that games are worth money and some idiots make a living on this or they think there going to get rich because they have Mario/duck hunt and it's rare because it's old. Hell cassette tapes are old and vhs but I can get those 50-1.00 everywhere.
And the fact that also these games are expensive and I forgot the most part gamestop threw out a bunch of title into the dumpsters when those games were at the end of life in those stores. So now games were destroyed and there are less out there for us to get.
and I'm talking quality titles like Sly Cooper, Grand Theft Auto, Jak and Daxter, Medal of Honor, and etc. that are great games but just aren't popular at the moment. Soon last gens games will start bottoming out as well Most of the pawns are already starting to lower down to the sub $10 level and game stop has been slowly dropping their prices over the last year or two.
. We should start seeing estates from people who were starting their households and raising kids in the late seventies to early 80s in the next 10-20 years and most likely we will be seeing a lot of stuff that got stored away popping back up again.
