I'll give you a chance to revitalize my interest with your perspective
I was a big time GW1 player, got jaded pretty quick over the changes in 2, the PvE did nothing for me, the WvW is still essentially boils down zerg vs zerg- with that great mind game of maybezergyourmapwhileyourserverissleeping. I found the dungeons fun for awhile, but it was hard finding competent parties for most of the high end ones.

What do you think is worth coming back to GW2 for?
I'm honestly not sure I can. Instead of just rubber stamping out another Guild Wars, Anet changed things up to make Guild Wars 2 different. I think a lot people went into GW 2 expecting the same but bigger and that's not what they got. In a way GW 2 is like the Zelda 2 of it's franchise. Basically you have to treat it like a separate game. If you didn't like what was changed fundamentally, then I can't convince you to come back, because all of the main elements are the same since you quit, but more refined and slightly bigger. The only thing I can think of that might get your interest is the vague promise that 2014 will be a real big year for Guild Wars 2. Lots of huge changes are coming this year and it'll all be starting pretty soon. Major features only release in march or april, huge revamp to game's soundtrack, major balance pass for all classes among other things, new dragon and potentially more interesting story for Living World Season 2 not to mention new maps, "expansion level content" with no announcement on how that'll be delivered or when, and tons of QoL stuff. And who knows what else.

If you don't like the second one, the original is still there. Though, no longer getting new content through expansions or updates anymore. Still has a population too. :)

Anyone here keeping track of Wildstar? It doesn't look too appealing to me. I don't like the art style, and the gameplay doesn't seem very active, but I haven't seen much. It is interesting that's it's an MMO that has a sense of humor. I can't think of many truly silly MMO's...that were actually meant to be silly. ;)

I think the art direction in Wildstar is one of it's most attractive features personally.
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

I COMMAND YOU: RISE THREAD! RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE!

Holy crap, I can't express how excited I am for the huge upcoming GW 2 feature pack. They're changing so much. Traits are getting a rework, sigils, runes, stats, PvP rewards, PvP builds, PvP Maps, armor/skins, dyes, Wxp, LFG tool, skills, Ascendeds and Legendaries, and they're still announcing stuff. Granted, it's not like a complete redesign or anything, but it is a game changer for sure. The wait for April 15 is going to kill me.

Here, if you're interested in seeing how Guild Wars will change: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/ ... ure-packs/

On more immediate news, ESO is launching next Friday! Anyone played the beta? What's it like? Who's getting it on launch day, or just getting it period?

I didn't realize ESO was launching until a week ago.

I don't think I'll play it, but I'll be interested in reading the reception it gets. This is Bethesda's first foray into the pay-to-play model, correct?

Still can't manage to care about it at all.

GW2 update looks like it could be interesting, but probably still not as much as GW1's skill stuff. Not that it kept me playing that for years and years either, but picking from 100+ skills per class, and then subclass stuff, was a lot more diverse, and elite skills gave targets to go for.

I believe so.

I also believe The Old Republic was Bioware's first foray as well. While some thought it was a failure, I thought it was just diversification. Granted I jumped in when it went free-to-play. I did buy time (at a discount through amazon) and quite liked it.

I hope ESO turns out great and wish Bethesda the best of luck.

I Just won't play it. I really like the solitude, among other things, of Skyrim and overall feel, I don't want to get disappointed.

I gave up on ESO when they announced races would be set into pre-defined groups rigidly enforced through gameplay. When they removed the simple basic freedom of allowing me to interact with whatever races I chose to interact with, I stopped caring about the game. Bethesda had apparently forgotten that the freedom aspect was what made their series so interesting.

Wanna know some more bullshit? Unless they've changed it without my knowing, you can't even play as the Imperial race unless you buy the collector's edition.
