I'm genuinely surprised at the size of the midnight release line at my Gamestop here in Buttfuck, PA

EDIT: Jesus! The CE barely fits in my car!

Played through a couple matches. So far I like it. Does it feel like it'll get old? I dunno, so far I don't think so. Whether it has a medium lifespan or a long one it's far too early to say, but first impressions were good. I'd like to see more modes, so hopefully they'll add more as we go along.

EDIT: Now for some more succinct thoughts now that I'm not banging out a quick post between matches.

The double jump and wall running are simple touches that can really open up the game at times. So far I haven't felt like there was anywhere I couldn't go. The mech stuff is cool and keeps the matches fresh, though I haven't sensed a learning curve yet. In the few matches I've played it seemed like a bit of dashing and bullet absorbing but for the most part just blasting away head on. Really cool that you (or your opponent) can climb onto a mech and wreak havoc on it.

The matches feel pretty chaotic and maybe lacking in strategy, but it's so early and no one knows the maps or even half of what to actually do. No real opinion on that yet. I like the fast pace of the matches, but I wish they were a little longer if that makes sense. As people get used to the game maybe things will be a little more methodical though.

All in all so far so good.

It is a 21gig download and a 49gig total install. Turns out that all of the bulk is 30ish gigs of uncompressed audio in multiple languages.

With the rise of the all digital library, it makes me wonder if they shouldn't just ask you what language you want installed prior to download to cut down on this. I'm guessing hardly anyone needs to switch between languages quickly.

This is the biggest pile of lazy developer shit ever.

You can not host dedicated servers does not seem that bad, but there is no Australian server, so Aussie connect to the East Asia server with minimum pings of 150 (I Have 100mbps fibre) right up to 250-300 for most users of ADSL 5-10mbps.

The asian players in the server all just jump around the screen (as in flash on and off) with the lag. Bullocks.

This is a utter joke. If you are not going to support the country, don't release the shit here.

That sucks man.

I live in the sticks and get 30-50ms ping over my shit DSL on the East Coast server. No problems with LAG so far

For what it's worth I think I'll downgrade my impressions to "flawed but fun". The game is cool, but after the initial shine wore off there are some things I take issue with:

- I don't mind the AI bots running around, but it's clear that they're there because the devs faced a dilemma with map size. They were either going to be too small for the times when a few Titans are active at one time or too big for when you're running around in normal COD fashion. They chose the latter option and filled in space on the maps with bots. That's not a death sentence to a game but honestly the fact is you simply don't encounter human opponents very often when you're on foot. My friend and I both agree we're spending a lot of time using anti-Titan weapons to try and help take opposing mechs down. Not because we want to play a support-type role, but because more often than not you're in a part of the map where there's nothing else to do.

- Give it time for everyone to learn the game and the maps, but the times you do encounter a human they're often taking pot shots at you from a distance where you'd be hard pressed to see them first. Snipers are problematic at times. The maps are big enough and the parkour elements are such that you can get nailed from just about anywhere. I guess it works both ways, but you'll die frequently with a stronge sense that there was absolutely nothing you could do about it.

- The Titan combat isn't bad and it breaks up the combat nicely. My issue with it is that the game sometimes doesn't allow for the opportunity for two, three, or four mechs to square off in a straight up fight. You've got anti-Titan weapons to worry about, opposing pilots jumping on the back of your Titan, and some maps are really congested (I realize that's the point of some maps, but for the purpose of this argument it's a negative). Sometimes I find another Titan to fight and because of the nature of the game all of a sudden there are red arrows all over my HUD because there's 21,000 things targeting me. This is one of those aspects of the game that are chaotic but not in a fun way IMO.

Some minor niggles:

- The Burn cards are far too weak and you receive far too many of them. It would be nice to receive a really powerful card once every ten levels or so, as opposed to what I have now which is about 15 cards none of which I remember to use because they hardly impact the game.

- I'm only level 13 or so and some of the secondary weapons and items are already starting to run together. Hmm let's see I can have a homing missile, a non-homing cluster of missiles, or a missile that fires, explodes, then causes some secondary explosions. Not thrilled with the variety in some slots.

- The game needs more modes, period. The fact that the gameplay is so diverse should mean a ton of possibilities here. I hope they don't phone this game in for the long term.

Make no mistake, I'm having fun, but at this point to say the game doesn't have some flaws is being dishonest IMO. Whether those flaws are big or small, or whether you're indifferent towards them is of course up to you. So far I just see a game that is pretty fun but could definitely be more refined.

I pretty much agree with your assessment. It's got flaws but I had a blast last night learning the game and all I've been doing is thinking about it.

I'd love to play with fellow Racket gamers. I usually play very late at night (11 p.m. - Midnight Eastern time) once the kid and wife are asleep.

is it nuts that I don't see any of those things you mentioned as flaws or problems with the game? I feel they might be seen as a "flaw" for your preferred playstyle or what you like in other FPSs, but I think they are intentional and engaging choices by the devs. I'm a good deal further in you in leveling and played 7-8 hours or more of the beta, so I feel like any annoyances I had have fallen away the more time I've spent learning how to play better.
