Holy Hell, man. You're one lucky SOB.
No joke though, dude. You should probably go get checked out as a precautionary measure.

Hopefully Mikes lack of responding means that he is currently at the doctors office

Hopefully he'll just have a healthy fear of his cab monitor, all said and done.ninjainspandex wrote:Hopefully Mikes lack of responding means that he is currently at the doctors office
That's a harrowing tale, indeed.

Thanks, guys. I called my father in law (retired physician) as I often do for my mishaps - he said I probably had a good bit of adrenaline rush which is natural and will keep the heart rate up - if after a bit it was still racing to then get checked out. I kept an eye on it for a good 60 minutes and everything seems good now.
I had a bit of a manic episode right after it happened - frantically trying to get the hood back on. It's always interesting they way you will respond if you haven't trained or otherwise built in muscle memory for specific scenarios.
After I got up and looked myself over, i'm shaking, holding this hood trying to get it back on, maneuvering it around, shaking, skiddish, keep thinking i'm feeling shocks and just all around jittery. My wife calmly says, "Honey, why don't you just unplug it before putting that thing back on?" ..."oh...yeah...smart."

Damn, that happen live with current, that as you know could have killed you. If you would have just discharged it to your body while it was unplugged and had no current running the shock would have been much less more than likely.
Be safe and always unplug.
Be safe and always unplug.

Exactly and that's it. I let it discharge a full 3 weeks as it can hold a good charge for quite awhile. Even after it had been off for weeks, I was really careful when unplugging the flyback. Cleaned everything up good and put it back together. Monitor back in place, put a board in, plugged it in and turned it on. Everything was good and then went sketchy - I just lost myself for a second, reacted as if I was gonna tap a TV losing it's video connection, and with the hood off, reaching to give the back a tap, it just took on tap to send me flying and yeah - had I like reached around and braced myself on the cab instead of like trying to tap it randomly, I could easily be dead. Scary as hell.bryan_65 wrote:Damn, that happen live with current, that as you know could have killed you. mjmjr25 wrote:I turned it on and voila, had my picture back, then a high pitched whistle, then monitor went wonky again. I reached back behind the monitor instinctively - as if to make sure an AC cable was properly position, but this is a flyback, not an AV cable, the microsecond I touched the rubber area on the flyback "ZAP!" and my body literally, yes Luke, literally, flew across the room and I landed about 8' away from the cab, my finger burnt, palm covered in smoke and in pain all over. Most of the pain quickly went away except in my left testicle. My wife had come running down when she heard the zap and then the thud. My heart racing - I told her I thought one of my testicles has exploded. It felt cold and wet - she quick got the kids out of there and I checked it out. I burst at least 3 blood vessels in the area, but appears intact othewise. Heart is still racing as I type this up.
I know we already know this - but there is nothing like experiencing it to truly understand the power of these monitors. Wow.

REMEMBER KIDS "SAFETY FIRST!"
glad to hear your okay dude!

A natural progression:
This better not be a troll thread where in a few days you start posting about your new "super powers"
