How are Efes and Tuborg? Any good? I've never seen them offered anywhere in the US, even at import places.

Efes Dark is alright. Tuborg and regular Efes are nothing special, there's a reason no one bothers importing them.

I find it ironic that despite being so close to Europe, the selection of European beers is far smaller here than in the states.

Admittedly though, it is a predominantly Muslim country. I don't find it that unusual.

The Muslims here are very unfaithful to their religion. I've only seen one prayer mat in six months, and Efes brand signs are on like half the restaurants. Everyone ignores the calls to prayer when they go off. Most women don't cover their heads.

I dunno, I don't really see anybody or know anybody who drinks anything that isn't one of the big brands. If I do see someone who drinks something out of the normal, its either college kids or someone from one of the bigger towns who have more choices.

And Crown is pretty much the choice for whiskey around. I like it alright, but I don't see it as much of a sipping whiskey or anything. I like it with Dr. Pepper, although I know some people would hate me for mixing.

College Kids drink shit beer for two reasons: no money and no taste. No self respecting, employed adult should pollute their body with that nonsense. Being able to afford and enjoy decent beer, wine, or liquor is a sign that you've made it.

I live in Texas so I'm surrounded by unwashed miller lite and dos equis drinkers. I'm a bit of a beer hipster so I sustain myself primarily on Real Ale products (Fire Man's 4, Alamo Golden Ale, etc) but I also enjoy anything Blue Moon, Shiner, or Sapporo make.

Most of my friends will opt for a Shiner or something else that's not 'giant American brewery' despite some of them being more 'normal', ie not so nerdy or hipstery.

One of my favorite memories of my time in the Navy was when we put in at Otaru, Japan and I hopped the train to Sapporo. Some buddies and I sojourned to the Sapporo Beer Factory and proceeded to get shit faced in the attached beer garden. They had these beer samplers, 6 little glasses in a neat little holder. We drank them out. I don't think they'd ever had sailors visit - they really weren't prepared for us and seemed amazed at how much beer we were prepared to consume.
