What's strange is that some other standard 2D genres, specifically shooters and fighters, continue to be made in modern styles but still in 2D; while the 2D beat-em-up really has died. A few older titles and CC are available now via download, but it hasn't turned the heads of game makers yet.

An HD Remix of X-men: Arcade with 6-player online games would set the world on fire!!

For Macs, MAME OS X works very well and is very easy to use.

If you have a PC, I can't help you...sorry!

Or a modern sequel to Guardian Heroes on a next gen console! OR a real sequel to Final Fight! See...I don't know why they haven't made more 2-D style fighters with 3-D software. It's quite easy to do and make them look and feel old school without being "outdated."
I think that the 3d exploring beat-em-up game has pretty much taken over. Games like Dynasty Warriors just conquered the market and companies ultimately just want to make money and these are better bets for that.

I can suggest going here: http://mamedev.org/

That will have all the official information you could want about MAME. I know there are several versions of MAME that work on PCs, but that's all I know. Try out the one available on the official site and see if it works.

Other than that, Google definitely works and there are also probably a few threads on here about it if you search a bit.

I've been playing it since it was first released, but I haven't played recently. Quite an impressive job! What I would really like is save states because the game is quite a bit longer than the originals and I would like to unlock the other stuff. Has that been introduced?

Haven't tried it yet. I'm downloading it now. Looks nifty, though.

It's been stuck on the same version for the past year or more. They're still ramping up for the next big release, but there's been steady progress so I'm not worried about that ball getting dropped just yet.
