That point would have to be FF VII, since it has FAR more crappy mini-games than the rest of the series, combined. I doubt they were embarrassed about that one though, I heard it did pretty well.

Best part was the mission in which you were asked to purposely fail lol.

And then they got embarassed of game's altogether and started making hallway simulators so they could pretend their game's were movies.

To me it is the volleyball game in Castle Crashers, which is exceedingly difficult to do when playing single. It just breaks the flow of the game and we can't get around it.

Even though a lot of them are mandatory, they are all pretty easy and fun breaks away that show progress without reverting to an cutscene or boss fight. I like the snowboarding best. FFXIII has a fun mini-game where you see how long you can play before you realise there is no game. I wasn't very good at it though TBH.

@Luke, I spent ages as a Lucky Hit vendor before noticing you can just blag free nights at the hotel. Ryo Hazuki: International Hustler.

Missions aren't mini games...No?

I'm trying to think of mini games that I don't like, and it's proving to be difficult. Gradius in Blades of Steel? Awesome. Mini games in Fall of the Foot Clan? Great.
That mission when you are playing in the warehouse is such a departure from the main style of gameplay, I would call it a mandatory mini game.

Same way you could call Tetra Master, Blitzball, etc. They are missions is those games, something that the player has to complete to move forward.

Any sudden "Press X to not die" moment in games that aren't otherwise made of them where I know to avoid playing the game.

Shenmue - Find Old Warehouse No. 8 come to mind? Mess up, waste a day, come back, re-attempt. Mess up for a certain number of days in a row, get map. Mess up even more, get location of Warehouse 8 and guard movement patterns. It is a part of the game, but probably the most annoying part too. Fortunately it only needs to be done once.

But see, in FotFC, you only come across them if you know where they are hidden. (and yes, they're pretty good) But those hidden games reminds me of Karate Kid of the NES -- NO NOT THE DAMN SWINGING HAMMER AGAIN!!!!!!

You dodged zero swinging hammer.
NOT ENOUGH
Sorry No Bonus.

*Walked into this post*

*Saw my two favorite minigames (Tetra Master, Blitzball) on the first page I look at*

*Hung my head, walked out*
Final Fantasy IX is the best one

I had not died at all until I tried performing an abortion on Randy Marsh in South Park: The Stick of Truth, but I died repeatedly attempting it. The sequence is a series of QTEs with little instruction, little warning, and dire consequences for failure. Thankfully, it was (1) shocking; (2) hilarious (Christmas Time is Once a Year!); and (3) a great meta-commentary on intrusive mini-games.
