The pipes in this house used to freeze, but then we had spray foam insulation put in. Problem solved. Shit wasn't cheap though.

I'm DIY to a point, a point which I've now passed for this particular headache.

Everything with house repair:prfsnl_gmr wrote:Soldering wet pipes is much, much easier said than done. If you insist on doing it yourself, I would use a sharkbite fitting to replaced a damaged section. Otherwise, I would call a plumber and have it repaired by a professional.

I'm going to throw this out there since we're talking home repairs:
To all of you who read this and currently reside in an apartment, please take the following advice.
Be super courteous to the maintenance crew. Offer them something to drink, ask how they're doing, and so on. Learn from them. Ask them "So what exactly are you going to do to fix the faucet/toilet/crack in tub/dish washer/garbage disposal/cracked tile/you get the picture.
Youtube videos are a good reference, but maintenance guys & gals have to troubleshoot all the time and it's not always the easiest answer that is a permanent solution.
If and when you buy a house, you can count on those guys to help out with your home.

Mix of copper and PVC. The PVC ones are shit, from what the plumber yesterday told me. I guess I'm lucky I haven't had issues with them before.[/url]
I work with PVC every day and it is really tough material.. It's easy to glue while wet, but make sure you get rated "for pressure" pipes if you go that route.
