Recommend me some Samurai/Kung Fu movies.

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

You are going to love Samurai movies then! (Unfortunately for you, the very best ones are in black and white, but you can ease into those once you have an appreciation for the genre.)
That's what I plan (hope) to do. I'm gonna start out with Seven Samurai to get a feel for it, then ease into other black and white stuff with Kurosawa's other work (Assuming I like Seven Samurai). From there I'll spread out to other stuff.

I'm always wary of sequels, especially with movies. And on Amazon their seems to be three sequels to Ip Man, with at least one being a prequel. Can you give any incite on whether the sequels live up to the first?

Ah, yes, that's actually been something I've planned to watch for a long time.

Well, I know Ip Man 2 is a sequel, and a continuation of the story of the original movie.
Plus, it also stars Donnie Yen. It's worth a watch, IMO.

As far as the others, I'm not familiar with them, so I can't really offer any insight on those.

You know I'm a sucker for old 1970's kung foo movies, especially Jackie Chans early work, a true legend.

Even though they're in more modern settings, I think that Crime Story and Police Story are solid choices as well.

THE LEGEND IS BORN prequel is was ok. Some decent fight scenes.

THE GRANDMASTERS is the least of my favorite film depecting legendary Yip Man. The Yen Wo Ping Fight Scenes didn't do it for me. And the story feels to to be less of Yip and more on Gong Er and her quest for revenge.

THE FINAL FIGHT took me by surprise. It was a fantastic film and closest related to the actual title character of all the films. The actor portraying old Yip did a worthy performance. It also feels alot like a period piece of that time frame of his life and I really appreciated that.

Hope that helps. And yes I enjoyed Wilson Yip's Ip Man films very much. The first being my favorite of the 2.

Any who more kung fu flicks worth mentioning.

SPL (Killzone) is another great pick. Flashpoint is another good one.

There are already a few posts concerning the great Kurosawa - Mifune movies. Also love Yojimbo and Sanjuro, the tempo of the music, story and even the humor. No one mentioned another good one so I will. :)

The Hidden Fortress
A must see for anyone curious about an Akira Kurosawa movie. The Fire Dance, the two pheasants and of course the great Toshiro Mifune a regal strong warrior always even when disguissed as a poor firewood seller. Here is honor in old Japan.

LOVED that movie, so much fun to watch.

As for The Raid, I thought it was overrated, but it's worth seeing for that one awesome Billy and Jimmy Lee versus Final Boss battle

Pretty much the only reason it's worth seeing:

Shaolin (2011) was fun, though not without its flaws

Also, laugh all you want, but I still love the original Mortal Kombat

Lady Snowblood is classic, but I think it was black and white

Too bad we're only discussing serious fare, as I found movies like Black Dynamite and Kung Fu Panda quite enjoyable as parodies of the types of movies we're talking about.
