Your retro-gaming goals and resolutions for 2014
Re: Your retro-gaming goals and resolutions for 2014
I'd like to get a ColecoVision and PSP this year. I'd also like to finish my giant mod project for Civ V. I'd furthermore like to grab a few more homebrew titles for Atari 2600 and 7800. Finally, I'd like to play more unplayed games this year than I did last year.

I'm thinking what games does she want that are so much money? Does she want the very rare games or something?GirlGamer55 wrote:Well my normal resolutions actually involved starting to sell some of my duplicates on Ebay to rake in some cash for Seattle's yard sale "season" or summer/early fall time. Sometimes spring around here is ok...but it tends to be too rainy for a lot of good sales.
I really need to rake in a lot because I have a sinking feeling that i'm going to have some trouble finding games at cheap prices, if I find any old games at all. It's easier to find Xbox and PS2 era games but i'm not interested in them (well some PS2 games I am interested in). Around here there are not a lot of retro gamers or if they are retro gamers, no way in hell are they going to sell you anything, or they want an arm and a leg for something. So i'm going to need a lot of money because I might end up just buying stuff on Ebay...i'm tired of haggling with assholes who think their beat up shitty games are gold and i'm tired of getting to a sale to late to only have someone say "Oh I just sold that".
*sigh* It's enough to make one want to give up collecting.
Ahhh i see now11. Buy Earthbound

Get an NES that works for more than a week.
Get the last few Quintet-developed games that I need
Try to get more of the SNES essentials for my collection. I really buy too many obscure games for the SNES.

Sell me your 32X stuff.dsheinem wrote:finally give up retrogaming, sell collection, focus on PS4 and XBone
So, my goals for the year...
1. My joke above was based on reality. I've decided to join the ranks of the elite few and get a complete 32X collection.
2. I recently hit 100 Genesis games in my collection. There's still a ton more that I want. I'd like to hit 150 this year, and obviously play as many of them as possible.
3. Pick up a couple of the more pricey titles on my want list. I just bought Popful Mail the other day, so that's a good start. Harvest Moon might be next.
4. More focus on collecting Sega in general, covering both their consoles and the stuff they've released in recent years. Lots of good Sega published titles that I've missed out on recently.
5. Get an Atari, either a 2600 or a 7800. I'm undecided, as I'd like to get a 7800 and have access to both libraries on one system, but I've always loved the look of the 2600. I feel like getting both would be redundant, and while it surprises me that I actually care about being redundant in this case, that's where my head is just the same.
6. Get an MSX, or an Amiga. Or both. Not that they're related to each other, I'm just saying.
7. Finish collecting all of the Ranma 1/2 games. The problem here is that of the few I'm missing, two (three if you count a port) are pricey, rare, and only available on the MSX and PC 98. However, there's a damn good chance I'll be taking a trip to Japan this year, so maybe I'll have better luck finding these things in person.
8. Just generally clean up the want list all across the board when I'm not actively working at the other things on this list.
We'll see how it goes.

Gotta be careful with this one. The 7800 comes in different builds, boiled down to two essential models. The earlier one has an expansion port on the side, the later one doesn't. The earlier ones generally have better compatibility, so go for that. For example, on mine, I can't play Imagic games (won't fit), which excludes some really cool titles, like Demon Attack, but also Atlantis, Moonsweeper, and Riddle of the Sphinx. Someone else's couldn't play certain homebrew games. Only problem is, there's no telling ultimately what console won't play something.CFFJR wrote:5. Get an Atari, either a 2600 or a 7800. Also, if you do get a 7800 instead of a 2600, make sure to get it composite modded. S-video mods tend to be inferior to composite mods on the 7800.

I am going to concentrate on just the dreamcast. I own 166 games and this year im going to collect the us library. I like my 360 and hooked on 3ds but I think I can pull this off since I have all the rare games and all I need is the average games that go for 10 and under.
I might also collect all the all stars games for the dreamcast.

Wow, I had no idea about that issue. Thanks for the info man, I'll remember it!o.pwuaioc wrote:Gotta be careful with this one. The 7800 comes in different builds, boiled down to two essential models. When has this ever stopped retro game collectors?CFFJR wrote:I feel like getting both would be redundant

Like I said, I'm surprised at myself, 'cause it doesn't make any damn sense. Especially when you consider how many doubles I have as it is.
I guess in this case I'm thinking of it because I'd want to have both hooked up at the same time.
Which is still stupid thinking because my GC, Wii, and Wii U are all hooked up, my ps1 sits on top of my ps2, and so forth.
*shrug* Clearly I need to just buy both.

Got a pretty busy year lined up with work and studying, so for gaming this year want to at least post one score for each Shmup of the Month, as well as dabble in all the Together Retro games.
For collecting, have asked the wife to buy me a Famicom for my birthday, mainly so I can play my pirate Recca cart. Trouble is, my birthday isn't until August....
