For a game made in 1988 to still feel futuristic makes it ahead of its time in my eyes.

a) atmosphere
b) you would buy it today
B makes no sense as a definition of "ahead of its time" and A wasn't really explained as doing something that would be done more frequently later (nor, specifically, why the SMS port is specifically able to do this in some novel way).
