This game is far more multiplayer friendly. I never want to play multiplayer NSMB. Players just kill each other. This game is actually fun with several players.

I'm at
the Bowser World
. The game is damn fun so far. I enjoy picking random for each stage, and it's always a moment to cheer when Toad reaches the tip of the flagpole. Captain Toad stages are great. Judging by the Miiverse posts, we need more of them.

Speaking of Miiverse, I always take a moment after each stage to read some posts and give a "yeah" to particularly creative uses of the stamps.

I do wish Nintendo had went for the full analog control instead of some weird 8-way analog hybrid. It would probably be more tolerable if the Wii U analog stick had the 8-way notches as with the Wii nunchuck. Still, it is obvious that the controls are not as intuitive or comfortable as in the old Galaxy games.

It's also rather odd to have this full 3D world, but often the platforming is presented on a 2D plane. I'm still getting used to it after eight hours of play.

I can't believe that anyone would make a video whining about the "super guide" tanooki suit. I didn't even know that it was just a suit and not the super guide until I saw that Matei video. Why would you complain about something that literally has zero impact on your game if you don't use it? Do you complain about the god mode in Doom, or the money cheat in Sim City? That video just says "looking for ad revenue" to me.

I take it you didn't play 3D Land?

Before I got 3D Land, the videos I saw of it made it look like an open 3D environment like SM64 or the Galaxy games. I was really thrown off when I first got it, with the locked camera and whatnot. You just have to realize, it is a hybrid between the 2D and 3D games.

That being the case, the stick works perfectly for this game. There's plenty of times where you have to run perfectly straight in a more traditional 2D platforming area, but you're still in the 3D environment. You don't wanna trail off slightly while trying to run perfectly straight.

No shit. Two Zelda games and three Mario games is 100 times more interesting than whatever is on the PS4Bone.

Back to this game though, Mike Matei apparently has some issues...

I definitely agree with that, but of course I do, I'm a retro-bastard, get offa my lawn! I know you can skip the block, but the principle is still relevant. It's disappointing that something like that exists.

I may be wrong, but maybe the idea is that they want to keep the Mario games hard, while giving an option to kids and parents to be able to play this game. that way hardcore gamers can still feel a challenge in the game, and the kids can still continue having fun with they feel its too hard for them. Also, they added an invincible character in the DLC for Mario Wii u (Luigi's one) and it's meant for your Girlfriend or little kid to be able to play together, whithout costing you all ur lives beacause they die too much ;) and make it fun for them because they can play along with you without dying every 5 sec ;)

3D World also has many branching paths to take where you can straight up skip levels to progress through the game. IIRC, every ghost house was optional.

Right now, I'm up to...

World Star. I knew there would be a shit ton more levels after the "last" level, just like 3D Land. I've only played Star-1 yet, but the platforming is ramped up in difficulty. That's what I liked about the additional 8 worlds in 3D Land. The difficulty was increased. It was challenging without being frustrating (wanting to break the controller). Except for the last LAST level in 3D Land. That was very hard IMO.

Oh yeah, and that fight against Bowser in World 8 was epic. And I mean to use that word literally, not in the every day use people use it for (like having an epic sandwich). Have we ever seen Bowser use a power up in a Mario game before? I know he has used them in the cartoons, but I think this is the first time he used them in a game. I laughed good at the first look at Cat Boswer. And then he starts getting the multiply power up thing. At then end when you have to hit the last POW! block several times and a bunch of Cat Bowsers are coming at you from all directions... it was just epic!

I'm halfway through...
Bowser's themepark world. The style in this game is just incredible. I especially love the theme-park aesthetic. The game has gotten pretty challenging too. Enough so that I used the extra live exploit on World 1-2.

I just "beat" the game. Wait, what's that on the ending screen? Hmm, what are those fairies working on?

Holy Shnikes! If anyone ever claims this game is too short, feel free to laugh heartily in their face. The game just never ends.

Since Super Mario 3D Land had an additional 8 worlds, I was expecting pretty much the same thing from 3D World.

Apparently it is the worst selling 3D Mario game, ever.

1) Super Mario 3D Land – 344,698 (1,861,023)
2) Super Mario Galaxy 2 – 337,569 (1,032,853)
3) Super Mario Sunshine – 280,610 (789,989)
4) Super Mario Galaxy – 256,341 (1,025,664)
5) Super Mario 64* – 162,113 (1,639,914)
6) Super Mario 64 DS* – 120,062 (1,231,535)
7) Super Mario 3D World – 106,967

It also failed to help move Wii U units, with the Wii U being outsold by even the Vita.

1) 3DS LL – 63,709
2) PlayStation Vita – 21,044
3) Wii U – 21,002

Sad numbers if all true.
