Super Mario 3D World

Post by RyaNtheSlayA »

So, the review embargos are up, and from what I'm reading, this game even tops Mario Galaxy 2. That's a pretty huge deal I think. Eurogamer, Destructoid, Joystiq, and Nintendo Life have given it a 10/10 for what it's worth. I'm going to pick it up at launch here in a few days. Anybody else going to join me? It looks like I'll need to pick up another controller with it for some multiplayer fun on Thanksgiving.

Also, I hear there's a secret version of the original Mario Bros. arcade game, but reskinned as Luigi Bros. if you have New Super Luigi U.

Seems like Nintendo has quite a strong lineup for the 22nd with both this and The Legend of Zelda launching. I hope they can start to move some units on the WiiU front.

I assume it's really similar to Super Mario 3D Land? I love that game.

It is a 4 player coop version of it with new powerups and abilities. I am hoping to grab it after this week of hell at work. If Walmart has all three I will grab: Mario, Zelda, and a Fit Meter.

I haven't gotten a Wii-U yet and I'm still mulling over getting one. If I do get one, I'd definitely get this. This looks like a real innovation for the Super Mario Bros. style as opposed to the New Super Mario Bros. games which were basically Super Mario Bros. 3 with 3D graphics. I'm liking the cat suit as well.

not to derail, but am I the only one that doesn't like Mario co-op games? I mean, I find NSMB Wii to be way more fun when me and my wife take turns doing levels solo rather than trying to deal with cumbersome co-op.

@Fast

Not entirely true. All the levels are new. None of it is pulled out of 3D Land. So I wouldn't say it's just a 4player co-op version of it.

Yeah, but it also seems to take it to the next level in that, it abandons the somewhat conservative aesthetic and design of 3D Land and embraces the more abstract and silly style of Galaxy. At least that's what I'm getting. I guess I should link some of the reviews.

All the gameplay I've seen and words I've read all give me that impression as well, more so than 3D Land on the 3DS.

I certainly don't disagree in NSMB, but this looks like it has far less opportunities to just screw eachother over and halt progress, seems like it might be a bit more relaxed and competitive rather than chaotic and disruptive like NSMBU.

I'm getting it tomorrow. My girlfriend is coming next weekend, i'm expecting this game to give us a couple hours of fun ;) I've seen reviews from many sources, and they seemed to have fun playing 4 players mode, even though it looked chaotic, that in itself can be fun i think ;)

And a bit shoutout to the first true HD mario game! its a must have!

I reserved a copy, so I'll definitely be picking it up day 1.

Playing the "New" games co-op really takes some practice. All the players have to be mindful of each other and not just run n' gun it (like you're use to doing when you play solo) or every one ends up fucking over other people. It can be VERY frustrating, but when you learn to think differently and be aware of the other players, it can be a LOT of fun. Group ground pounding, reaching high places easier/without powerups, etc.

I don't think he meant it's the same game, I think he just meant that it's the same kind of game.

Watching some videos of this on YouTube and it really looks awesome, can't wait to play it. My only criticism, and I'm sure I'm alone in this, but... does Mario music really need to be orchestrated? It doesn't work for me

You never did play Galaxy did you?

Koji Konda orchestrated stuff is incredible.
